Good Widgets.com is a website that delivers four photo display widgets. The widgets include slider, slideshow, stack and book. Out of these four, I chose “book”. Probably because the other three have been done and done and done again.
Registration is simple. There is the standard username and password and email. No funky word verification or email verification. Okay, you have to type your email twice. Similar to the password verification process. Thats it! Once you click submit you’re logged in. (unless you have chosen a username already taken)
Pick a widget. Simple enough. You have three choices in each widget window. Try, Get Branded and Get Standard.
1. Try: This allows you to see the widget in action.
2. Get Branded: This sets you up with the FREE version of that widget. (has a “Good Widget Logo”)
3. Get Standard: This gets you going with the paid version. $2-$4 (one time fee?) based on how many photos you want. 20-40 pics.
If it appears as though nothing happened after you selected the “Branded widget”. The link to your widget appears in the upper right box titled “My Widgets” (I didn’t see this happen…it was like magic!)
Supply your photos. This is a simple process that can either refer to your Flickr photos or upload from your computer. The upload is semi fast. The weird thing here is Good Widgets hosts your photos at ImageShack. But there is no ImageShack association, like the one with Flickr.
Configure your widget. This is where you get to decide what colors your widget has and the size your widget will be. I love widgets that allow you to edit size and color. Unfortunately, in this case, I wasn’t able to see my finished widget to properly edit the settings. The configuration interface hung while loading the photos from ImageShack. I wound up skipping to the next step.
Share your widget. Here you have two options.
1. Embed: Which is the code to place this widget on your blog. This is a Flash based widget. Which makes it MySpace friendly. (unless they block it for some reason)
2. Share: This is simply enter the email address of the person or persons you would like to share this widget with.

This is a good site and widget concept. I think it needs some work on the hosting hang and working to incorporate other popular image hosts. There are many other photo widgets out there. So the competition is strong. Good Widgets.com has to do some unique things to be noticed in this crowd.
One unique thing they are doing. Lab Click on this tab to see users “photo widget” ideas. Vote on your favorite. If it gets the most votes, Good Widgets will create it. This is an excellent idea.
Here is the “Book” widget.
Can somebody please leave a comment when this finally loads my photos?
Henry over at Good Widgets.com was kind enough to let me know what the problem was and that it is now fixed. Thank You Henry for your prompt response. “D”

Hmm. It’s not loading for me. Firefox, on an iBook.
Just thought I would let you know that your widget has loaded. It was actually not server related, but file format/flash related. The problem is resolved now.
