Consumating.com “A new way to find people who don’t suck”.

Yes, that’s their slogan, and they have a widget for you. They actually have a few different varieties of widget to choose from. These widgets are for displaying people in the Consumating community. This is a meet people site. (for singles)

Most of the choices differ in shape and appearance. With one being just a text display widget.

This is Cool!

1. You get choices as to what is displayed in your widget.
— One person or multiple people.
— Everyone in the community or members based on location. Also members of a particular rank.
— Choose to display “Boys, Girls or both at the same time” Or just a random assortment.
— Or pick the ten most popular Consumators.
2. Widgets come with their own CSS. So if you are into editing that stuff…have fun
3. These widgets are sized nicely to fit in most blog sidebars.

This is OK!

1. You don’t need to sign up to use this widget. (My wife is happy about that) But in order to get the most out of the service…you probably should sign up.
2. This widget uses JavaScript in order to update the information it contains. Unfortunately this excludes MySpace users. As well as other platforms that block scripts.
3. Some of the widgets contain a voting feature. This allows you to vote for your favorite Consumator.

This is a Bummer!

1. The code for these widgets is extra large. Not that this really matters but it may deter some users who are new to editing their templates.
2. There are no user friendly appearance settings. No obvious color choices or size editing preferences. Chances are the widgets will fit in your blog. But it’s nice to be able to customize it the way you want.
3. Utilizing JavaScript bans this from MySpace. Probably one of the most social sites on the Web.

Creating MySpace friendly widgets should be priority for all services that plan to use widgets.
There are millions of MySpace users out there screaming for this or that widget to customize their profile.

MySpace profile customizing has created a great many amateur web designers. Give them what they are looking for and you will see more success in your services.
