blogarate.com rating widget + visitor widget wHooiz.com

blogarate.com together with whooiz.com have created a what? …an Avatar visitor tracking community profile site (MyBlogLog) and paired it with a rate my post/site.

This is great! Hopefully I am allowed to see and track whoever is giving me poor ratings.

I sure hope that they allow video uploading soon. I know that you can upload podcasts on your whooiz profile as well as use a naked woman for an avatar.

One thing I did notice about the rate widget…it’s more of a “plug in”.

I couldn’t just add it to my template. I would actually have to break out the FTP program and add it to the files on the server.
So I think this alone puts it head and shoulders above the average user.

The blogarate and wHooiz sites are well put together and easy to navigate. I would say that if you are looking for a change from MBL you will probably feel right at home here.

PhotoShow.com Musical slideshow

February 19th, 2007

This is the PhotoShow I have created.

As you can see this is still beta. But it’s still fun and you can add it to your MySpace profile.

The musical part allows you to choose some styles of elevator tunes. I turned off the music on my widget. Some visitors bitch when I have musical widgets. So in the interests of building traffic I kiss ass where need be.

Widgets Lab moving to new server

February 18th, 2007

I just wanted to let you know that Widgets Lab is moving to a new server.

I’m not sure about the exact time, when this will happen.

I have tried to make this happen myself but was unable to. The online help for this type of thing is very sketchy and when you do find something that pertains to your specific problem…there is an assumption by the author of the resource that the user has a pre set amount of knowledge about the topic in question.

Acronyms are thrown around like birdseed. FTP this and PHP that. Set your server permissions, back up your database, fuck up your day!

Tech support on the new server side is non-existent. About the best they can do is point you to the online resources that failed you to begin with.

Worst possible scenario…Widgets Lab starts from scratch…0 posts 0 archives 0 resources.

Thank You!
Derek

Cellblock.com Mobile video widget

February 16th, 2007

Cellblock.com is a service that allows you to post photos and video to a widget from anywhere you can send an email.

What a great idea !

Lets say you see some news worthy video and you manage to capture it on your mobile phones camera. You can instantly email it to your Cellblock widget and it will be displayed for any of your blog readers to view.

What else can I do?

You can open up your Cellblock to anyone that wants to post photos and video to your widget. This could essentially create a mobile band of video journalists for your blog.

What about offensive content?

You can set up your Cellblock widget so you have complete control over what content gets added. You are the chief editor!

Try it out. it’s FREE

Popular Posts Widget

February 15th, 2007

AffiliateBrand.com has a great “Popular Posts” widget.

What does it do?

This widget allows you to display links to some of your most popular posts in an attractive, fully customizable widget.

affbrand.jpg

With this widget you are able to give it a custom title that suits you needs. Choose how many posts are listed. Determine how far in the past you want to look. 1 day, 30 days, 135 days or whatever.

This widget is built to fit!

You can choose the height and width. This is one of the most important aspects for widget use. If it doesn’t fit…it don’t get used.

What about colors?

This is a bit tricky. If you don’t have CSS experience or you don’t have a link to a CSS style sheet, you get to use to color scheme provided. Perhaps in the future you will be able to customize your colors easier. Don’t let this stop you from using the widget though.

This widget will stay on Widgets Lab !

I can already see the value of such an addition to this blog.
