18Seconds.org…CFL widget

CFL is not Canadian Football League…it’s Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb…and if you install these in your house you will save the world from global warming! (at least you’ll help)
18Seconds.org does have a cool widget that allows you to track how your area is doing as far as purchasing these Compact Fluorescent bulbs. These CFL’s are designed to replace the Incandescent bulbs that are much less energy efficient.
According to this widget…Minnesota is failing!
In 2002 there was an estimated 5 million+ people in Minnesota. According to the number on the widget…that means that 1 CFL has been purchased for every 12 people in the state. Luckily this is incorrect.
The widget is missing a crucial piece of information…the number of CFL’s purchased is counted from JAN 1, 2007 to present. That seems to make more sense, since I, myself, have purchased 5 CFL’s.
The number 421,109 is the number indicated on the widget when I posted this. We can see how rapidly this number changes. Do you think it will change on a daily basis? The necessary information should be available to reflect changes almost as soon as the CFL’s are purchased. However…once a day would be cool.
I do think there should be some brown in this widget…just to help remind you to hug a tree. (yes I’m a smartass!)

18Seconds.org reflects the number of CFL purchased in a state since 1/1/07. It goes on to show the energy saved, etc.
Could I have the formula used to derive this information. It is for a paper I am writing at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, and I need to cite a reliable source.
Thank you.
