CustomAvenue.com is a really cool website. The creators appear to be very web2.0 savvy. They have created a great widget that is fun and serves a specific purpose and could potentially be profitable.
CustomAvenue is an “Online Design Studio”. It has taken this “Online Design” concept a step further, by creating widgets that allow blog owners to bring the design studio to the blog. What a cool thing! Your visitors can design their own T-shirt and when they are done designing…they can buy it! Website owners can also profit from this by collecting a commission from each sale.
Widgets come in multiple flavors. They all do the same thing, but may look a bit different with the choice of 4 available skins.
When you click on one of the CustomAvenue widgets, a small secondary window opens to allow you access to the “T-Shirt Image Editor” The editor acts like a mini version of a typical image editor. Featuring layering abilities, image upload and multiple template choices.
Purchase right from the widget. The entire process, creation to purchase, happens without taking your visitor away from your blog. This is a very important feature that many widget makers overlook. Blog owners work hard to get visitors. The last thing they want to do is send them away to someone else’s site.
Partner program. The Partner Program is CustomAvenue’s affiliate program. If a T-Shirt gets purchased from your CustomAvenue widget, you earn a commission. How much the commission is, when you get paid and how you get paid are all pieces of the puzzle that come into place when you contact CustomAvenue about the Partner Program.
Whats missing? The widgets need to be easily cloned. I should be able to “Grab one” for my blog right from the widget. If I can create a custom designed T-shirt from scratch via this widget. It should be a piece of cake to make these widgets viral.
(Partner Program may require a more detailed installation of the widget. Standard widget code, for some reason, comes in a zip file. Why a zip file and not just a copy and paste text area? I don’t know.)
