3jam “Text Me” widget

3jam.com has a widget that allows you to send and receive text messages on your mobile phone to someone visiting the page that has your 3jam “Text Me” widget.

What…?

Yes…you can carry on a conversation with a web page visitor using text messaging via a widget. It also works on MySpace! There is nothing to download either…just verify your mobile number with 3jam and then copy and paste the code for your widget onto the webspace of your choice. This is a two way street and the service is FREE!

I don’t want the whole world to know my phone number.

Don’t worry! Your number is hidden and anyone that wants to send you messages has to be verified the same way as you did.

Thad White, 3jam.com representative had this to say:

3jam is a company focused on providing new and better ways to communicate.
We have a unique infrastructure that lets users have mobile text message
conversations without revealing phone numbers to each other. We got
feedback from our users that this would be valuable on MySpace and other
social networks. Users want to stay in-the-loop while away from their
computers but don’t want to expose their phone #s.

The 3jam TextMe widget lets you get mobile text messages from friends on
MySpace in a safe and secure way. What’s totally unique, is that the text
message is not just a dead-end. You can actually respond to the sender’s
mobile phone, and the conversation continues as long as you want.

This back-and-forth conversation happens without anyone knowing your phone
number. And we prevent spam to your mobile phone by collecting and
verifying the senders phone # before they can send you a message.

My opinion is…

The cool…I like things that make communicating easier. There is no doubt that the 3jam widget does this. I like the fact that you can message anyone without having to be using their brand of IM.

The scary…anyone that doesn’t have unlimited text messaging on their mobile phone plan could rack up a huge bill. (I said rack)

Needs improvement…
Options, options and more options. I want to make it bigger, change the color, add a title, create a border, add images etc… It’s all about customization. Ivan tells us in more detail about the sins of widget developers.

  3. Mr Linker,
I am submitting the error that I get when trying to use the widget. The widget/service is still new so it may be a bit buggy yet. I will post when I find out something.
    Thanks for commenting.
