New Feedster New widget

by Derek Anderson Stumble this! June 28th 2007

feedster2.jpg

Feedster.com unveiled a new website interface and widget combination today. The widget displays search results in an RSS style format.

Here is a quote from Rachel Boltz on the Feedster blog.

“To start with the obvious, the site looks completely different. When comparing the old with the new, it’s quite apparent that we decided to keep only the name from the old design. Everything else we set aside, in favor of our newer, shinier self.

Another obvious change is that our content channels, labeled “Feed Buzz”, now occupy a much more prominent place on our site. Each channel has been built from hand-selected feeds that match the general topic. The criteria for selection were as follows:

1) Frequent updates
2) Widely read
3) Largely and consistently confined to one topic
4) Valuable information

The best part about the channels is that you can now take them with you. In fact, every channel AND search on our site are completely portable with the new Feedster widget.” Here’s the entire blog post from Feedster.

It’s cool because you get a different perspective on whats out there. This is Google Clip without having to physically click the share button.

Particulars
This is a JavaScript widget. It’s free and very user friendly. Check out the cool widget customization pane. It allows you to custom design your widget with a title, custom background colors and you can size it too!

Crazy amounts of widgets How do I keep up

by Derek Anderson Stumble this! June 27th 2007

Group polling via web widget

circleup1.jpg

CircleUp, Inc., today announced the availability of an embeddable MyQuestions widget for any Web site, blog or social network serving groups. With the CircleUp widget embedded in an organization or event Web site, users can communicate powerfully with their group right from their site, saving time and enhancing group information, collaboration and productivity.

To start using CircleUp in any site, a site admin simply visits the “FreeTools” section of the CircleUp site at circleup.com, grabs a snippet of HTML code and drops it into any chosen location on their group site or social network. It’s a breeze to plug in and manage on almost any site that supports iFrames. All branding in the area surrounding the widget is controlled by the organization and branding inside the widget is simple, basic and references CircleUp.

Video channel widget

mefeedia1.jpg

Mefeedia.com The “What I’m Watching” widget displays the latest 10 video thumbnails that are in your channel, which updates automatically as new videos come in from the feeds that you are subscribed to. This enables you to display the latest videos that you are interested in directly on your blog or anywhere you like (as long as it supports Javascript!). Each of the thumbnails goes to play the video itself. In addition, people can click on the links above and below the video thumbs to view your profile on Mefeedia. It is a great way to keep updated and share with your blog/vlog viewers what other videos you like.

Increasing/Decreasing the number of videos displayed
In the code that you have to copy and paste, change the “10.js” to a number you would like to show, up to 50 videos! For example, to decrease the number of videos displayed from ten to six change “10.js” to “6.js”. To show more, change “10.js” to “20.js”. It tops out at displaying 50 videos.

With the Attendio widget you can keep track of her tour, buy tickets, email event info to friends etc…

The Attendio widget takes events entered at attendio.com and shows them on any webpage, including MySpace, Facebook, Blogger and other sites.

The widget is a great tool for bands, sports teams, or anyone passionate about sharing event information. It works on many sites including MySpace, Facebook, TypePad, NetVibes, Friendster, Blogger, Windows Live, iGoogle, Pageflakes, Freewebs and Webwag.

There are other artists as well…The Police, 311, Counting Crows, Beyoncé and The Vans Warped Tour

The Attendio widget is based on Clearspring technologies.

“The standard Internet advertisement is so familiar that most people tune it out: a billboard stripped across the top of a Web site, waiting for consumers to surf by and maybe click on it.

Now a young generation of online-ad creators are pushing a newer idea: putting a brand on a mini-site so fun or useful — a video game or a spruced-up calculator or a live sports update — that people download it, paste it on their personal blogs or social networking sites, use it again and again and share it with friends.”

Electionvine Election poll widget

by Derek Anderson Stumble this! June 27th 2007

You can embed a US Presidential election poll on your blog.

Newsvine has created a widget that allows you to have your own personal Presidential election poll. It’s aptly named…Electionvine

newsvine1dk.jpg

What is it?
This is a Flash widget that should work on MySpace (unless it’s too much for the MySpace election stuff. Then it will be blocked)

Looking at the widget you can see that it is dark in color…(hopefully this is no indication as to how the campaign is going to play out.) The major candidates are represented and you can choose which one you endorse.

Some opinion stuff!
The voting results are simple to understand. What I am seeing early on, is a comanding lead by Barack Obama across two different polls. TechCrunch/Electionvine and the Electionvine main page.

Of course, we know that this can change…maybe.

PROPAGANDA III WIDGET

by Derek Anderson Stumble this! June 26th 2007

This is Propaganda!…As a “Mobile WallPaper”…Can I make a Dime with it?

START MOBILE, the independent mobile content company, today announced the launch of another revolutionary mobile content WIDGET, powered by XLR8 Mobile’s “WapItUp!” mobile commerce platform.

The PROPAGANDA III WIDGET makes political artwork from around the world available to mobile consumers globally, via a mobile content widget that instantly brings mobile commerce to ANY website.

http://www.xlr8mobile.com /PROPAGANDAwidget

PROPAGANDA III is a traveling exhibition of political posters from around the world, created by the START SOMA GALLERY in San Francisco. Following the July 4, 2007 opening at the infamous Phoenix Hotel, PROPAGANDA III will tour the globe through 2008, with dozens of one day art shows worldwide - the current schedule includes stops throughout North America, South America, Australia, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. There will be no curation and absolutely no censorship of any sort. Expressed political viewpoints, be they left, right, or center, will be displayed side-by-side, both in the real world and online, where they are accessible through a dedicated FLICKR GALLERY:

http://www.flickr.com/photos /startpropaganda

15 works of political poster art (representing artists from Argentina, Croatia, Spain, and the United States), are now available as cell phone wallpapers via the PROPAGANDA III WIDGET - with ALL the proceeds donated to the non-profit Center for the Study of Political Graphics.

“As the founder of both START SOMA (the gallery) and START MOBILE (the mobile content company), I was in a unique position to do something pretty cool with this amazing artwork,” observed John Doffing. “And since the Center for the Study of Political Graphics in Los Angeles is going to be the permanent archive for PROPAGANDA III, we thought that we would use this unprecedented new medium for the distribution of artwork to help them raise some money and support their great efforts.”

After PROPAGANDA III travels the world, the posters will be donated to the Center for the Study of Political Graphics (CSPG) in Los Angeles. CSPG’s growing archive currently contains more than 60,000 domestic and international posters produced in a staggering array of visual styles and printing media, dating from the Russian Revolution to the present. With 95% of the archive dating from the 1960s to the present, CSPG maintains the largest archive of post World War II political posters in the U.S. and one of the largest in the world.

“Making political posters available as cell phone wallpapers is certainly unprecedented,” according to CSPG Executive Director Carol A. Wells. “And if the PROPAGANDA III WIDGET works the way we hope it will, we are not only bringing some amazing political artwork to the nearly three billion cell phones in the world today, but we also just created a new modality for non-profit arts fundraising!”

THE FUTURE OF MOBILE CONTENT

“WIDGETS are the future of both mobile and online commerce,” observed XLR8 Mobile founder Perry Tell. “And the PROPAGANDA III WIDGET is just the latest of many innovations that are coming from XLR8 Mobile!”

“We couldn’t afford to spend a bunch of money to get folks to come to the PROPAGANDA III website, so we decided that we would bring the PROPAGANDA III website directly to the customer,” observes John Doffing, the founder of START MOBILE. “And the ONLY way to do this was with some pretty fancy technology created by XLR8 Mobile - there is nothing else in the world that even comes close!”

With a few lines of code, the PROPAGANDA III WIDGET can be added to any website in the world, and is powered by XLR8 Mobile’s “WapItUp!” mobile commerce platform. The WapItUp! platform delivers mobile content from ANY website to mobile phones ANYWHERE in the world, via a proprietary commerce system, featuring micro-site widget storefronts.

What are Widgets?

by Derek Anderson Stumble this! June 25th 2007

An excellent definition of widgets. What they are and where they are going.

Widgets are small applications that provide functionality and content online, distributed through a potentially limitless number of websites. They also represent an entirely new way of looking at advertising. Unlike almost all other online ads, widgets are uploaded onto sites (personal sites, profile pages, blogs) by consumers themselves. They are pulled by their audience, instead of pushed by marketers. And the publishers (largely personal publishers) who upload them are far more than affiliates: owing to these publishers’ personal dynamic and voice, they become advocates for the marketers whose widgets they help distribute. Widget Marketing is exciting because it allows advertisers to swim with the current, not against it. Now advertisers can be invited into conversations they might not otherwise have access to. It means a whole new way of thinking about marketing, but one that marketers will have to move towards if they want to continue connecting with their customers.

Thank You! www.freewebs.com

Truveo Video widgets (AOL video widgets)

by Derek Anderson Stumble this! June 20th 2007

Based on the news that I read at TechCrunch this morning. Truveo seems to be growing at a very respectable rate.

Video is crazy popular and everyone can’t get enough. This is why Truveo Video search is gaining in popularity.

Truveo has cool widgets. I’ve seen them in the past but they have grown up since the AOL acquisition.

Here is my favorite one…

The scrolling thumbnail widget.

You can also go for the single video version displayed below.

Single video widget

Flash programming is used on a majority of these widgets. This makes them certain social profile friendly.

There are many more widget options for Truveo video search. Including Yourminis, Widgetbox and AOL video search. Check out the Video Search application gallery for more details.
