windows live spaces

Windows Live Spaces was just recently updated this past saturday as you can note just by going to the homepage or if you want more details about it go to The Spacecraft

Now, why would talking about WLS is a good fit for widgetslab?, well, simply because the modular model it uses. WLS is a modular personal hub, and unlike other platforms or what people may think, it is not closed at all, you can develop your own widgets for the platform and there are more and more ways to do it or to export the widgets you can use in WLS to either your Vista desktop or even to WM in some cases.

There are various ways of doing a WLS widget module: following the live dev guidelines for it, creating your own mashup directly in Popfly and export it to WLS, hacking your way around, since you can now convert any web widget into a vista sidebar gadget and then export it back to web as a WLS widget. but the options don`t stop there, via Channel 10 i saw the news that you can do even more with widgets and gadgets, you can go the Live Quick Apps route that are web apps done from mashups, widgets and gadgets data using any windows live service, and then you can even make downsized version of that Live quick app for your WLS or your desktop, and that is even without mention what kind of next gen widgets we will be seeing thanks to the use of Silverlight after is finally launched this fall.

What does that mess of information finally means?, that it sure seems that MS is really going big for all kinds of widget angles in whatever name given the medium they are called, in the core base, they are still the very same thing. so, if you love widgets and you are using WLS,vista or wm, there a lot of widgets in your future to use and enjoy.

One good place to start looking for them would be of course Windows Live Gallery or if you need some good recommendations intead, you can check out a list right Here

So if you never have given WLS a try…or haven`t returned back since the original launch, then you might want to have a look at it again.
