IMinent is a start up that offers a video IM sharing service, that is precisely replicating pretty much the feature you have in Windows Live Messenger with Soapbox videos, where what you share you can see it along with your IM contacts. that was their main focus, and suddenly they must have struck a “eureka” moment and just launched a widget with a very simple idea that at first sounds stupid, but that can be brilliant, depending on its use as with most things.
Such a widget is Chapter, a widget that loads a replays conversation logs from Any IM service that produce them. and i must say that i had one of those “why this didn`t existed already?” questions in my head when i saw it. Cashmore questioned it`s mere existence, i do welcome it, it is a another kind of Social Awareness + Personal Broadcasting angle.
Imagine that if you have ever done a great IM interview (i have), being able to replay that interview in the way it originally happened, a great moment in your personal conversations, a moment of occurrence or even just a hilarious conversation.
If there is a market for unedited lifecasting that can be either as boring seeing a security camera at a mall or either quite engaging and addicting, why not for something like this?. just what i thought, it about the user to convert something “Meh” into “Teh Awesome”.
And that is why i would like more customization for the widget, more versions for it and more options, it is a great idea, it just needs more form and style.the widget comes in flash, so it a “everywhere” widget and it got some basic customization with the novelty of added sound effects. but lets not dilute the idea and lets hope they exploit this better.
