gBox: Shopping Widget to Buy,Wish and Gift Music

gBox is a service to buy, wish and gift music, be the whole album or by song. The service supports the “trinity” in terms of audio formats, and that is acc, mp3 and wma, but the most interesting bit on it is that is also offering the music DRM free.
This is the new Google and Universal Music store initiative.
This store represents the first direct attempt to shift power off from Itunes and it is a bold move into making things what they were supposed to be or so they say.
And the approach could not be more interesting, giving it uses a Widget as part of their service to promote purchases of music around the Internet, the store besides running a solid search database as google knows how to do, strangely enough uses a sidebar flash module to make the transactions of music to work, so i guess that the E-store in a widget get even more and more validation as this year pass and so does having wishlists on a widget too.
The idea of the widget is simple, it works as a wishlist, but also works as a tool of personal Awareness, by also promoting what you have received and what you have given to others with gBox.
I got some complains about it because if this is Google and Universal the companies we are talking about and they are using flash to make this new store work,where are the advanced options for the widget so we can customize it more to our liking?, how come the widget cannot sell music directly like Flogd does?, or that you cannot use Google checkout as a option for payment?. that is what is needed to give the store the true viral nature they want, they also should take a cue from the OnTour team and make not only work the widget as good as that one but also offer desktop widgets/gadgets so people can buy,gift and wish at the whim of a second, it also has the potential of it being used with a affiliate money making system too.
Even then, the widget works well, uses flash, so you can now put it anywhere from Myspace to your favorite social network and of course your blog.
So, given the players involved, the fact you can get the music in the best 3 formats, without DRM and with a system that glows with potential, i would say it is enough to give it a look.

I wondered the same things…It will be interesting to see how things pan out. Has anyone seen Cartfly? Pretty cool concept there too. Seems like everyone is using it for their myspace to sell goods.
