Google Maps is the second thing that google hit it big with and that took the world by storm, it has generated lots of hacks, mods, tips, tricks and mash-ups since then. lots of the focused on bringing those maps to a blog.
Today that comes to an end because Google just launched a option so you can use them as embedables in your website, blog and social network.
It is not a everywher widget, it is optimized code by google placed on a styled iframe, but considering what you had to do to get a map working well in a blog one year ago. i doubt people will complain too much.
