NeoWORX.net is building widgets and they have some cool looking offerings. The central topic is website tracking and visitor tracking. Most of the widgets deal with a location based identifier placed upon a map. What this means is, your blog visitors are represented graphically with a Flag placed on a map depicting where they are currently located. Or they could have there flag placed in a bubble as well. These bubbles float around within the widget giving you the feeling of an aquarium. It’s called a Flag Cloud.
Another widget they offer is a site based chat. Similar to Shoutbox type chats. This one offers smiley faces and more importantly, an Administration panel where you have control over offensive users.
There are 6 widgets total. 7 if you count the NeoPod I’m sure you have noticed that they all resemble the Apple iPhone. Why? Who knows? Of course each widget is Flash so they are ‘Everywhere’ widgets. This helps later on when you find out the price.
The NeoPod is the widget of widgets. It combines all of the other widgets into one, standalone widget. All of the functionality of the other widgets can be had using the NeoPod. This is a great idea. From a users standpoint, all this functionality would eat up a huge amount of sidebar and resources loading all of it from servers around the globe.
Oh oh, all of the widgets on NeoWORX are ‘Pay to use” widgets. 14.99? for 12 months use. They may be cool looking but I don’t want to pay to use widgets…ever!
The widget trade-off has always been: I’ll get the functionality and the developer gets the traffic.
