Xanga unlike what other may think is doing Ok, but ok is not enough in the web 2.0 market, so the only way to thrive is to either innovate or to diversificate, xanga has chosen the second path and is now in a sort of a crossroad where you could say that it is a social network or a blog platform depending on what side of the user spectrum you are in it.
But even then,xanga is a very good Blog/Social platform and is now offering their of lifestreaming channel, their own theme gallery and in a move that i think all blog platforms should have by now, they are offering their own Widget gallery.
the xanga platform is in a point in the middle from buzznet "cool factor" and now beyond what Tagworld offered (the base of tagworld is what now powers Flux), one of the things i love about it is that, it is GLOBAL minded platform in a way most arent and that will alow it to continue without problems and may even give some surprises.
The widget gallery is a good way to prove that they want userbase to know that Xanga can pretty much provide everything they could want and is of course another point to atract new users.
i had something like 3 months without taking a hard look to xanga and i must say that i am impressed with it.
