Yahoo Widget Engine 4.5

It was not that long ago i posted my late review to the YWE 4.0 and the bottom line message in that post was that Yahoo needed to change; well that change is finally starting to come for yahoo with the release of YWE 4.5 that includes more improvements, leopard support and what is the main surprise is that it will start partnering with other distribuitor channels and developers like clearspring, netvibes and widget agency Musestorm to start embracing the web. a smart move becuase there was no way Yahoo could have made it by themselves fast enough. having 3 of the most important widget start ups helping them should prove golden for the Yahoo Widget Engine to survive and even thrive.
The most important changes in the yahoo widget engine 4.5 are as follow:
- *Leopard support
- *Better security
- *Better development
- *Multimedia support
- *higher quality game widgets
- *renewed widget quality control board
- *A more open Platform (partners)
- *renewed Widget gallery
But is that enough at this moment in the Widget craze?
Sadly no, Yahoo should still be able to offer their widgets to the web in a full and direct form.
That is gonna be hard, but the partnerships they are doing will help to them to gain time while they do so, that alone gives them a shot at it.Yahoo widgets beyond the engine are very needed.
Still not fully integrated support for Vista or Leopard, but the news from Google starting that transition should speed up things and maybe we will be able to see that when the yahoo widget engine releases their 5.0 version, that it could be the last widget engine they produce because it would make more sense they becoming a widget distributor and universal platform after that.
Conclusion
Good changes, just not enough to make them as good as they need to be.
