Quintura named alternative search engine of the year

altsearchengines.com had narrowed down the field of alternative search engines from over 100 to 10 in their search for the best. All of the contenders have excellent alternative (other than Google, Yahoo etc) search offerings.

Criteria
Many qualities were considered. Market share, popular vote (on altsearchengines.com) innovation, leadership and recognition.

Quintura.com was named altsearchengine of the year for a number of reasons. Including being named one of the top 100 websites by PC Magazine in November

But what put them in the top position, is their attitude. Quintura’s new corporate slogan is “We are not afraid of Google”

Widget
Unfortunately the Quintura widget wasn’t part of the consideration. I find the Quintura widget to be an exceptional widget that delivers a unique search option using visual ques for suggestions that you might not have thought of.
Related searches are displayed as you mouse over already displayed results. Some of the results include a favicon that a particular site may use.
This is something that I don’t think the other contenders offer. they may have widgets but none as cool as this one.

That is a bold statement on their part. Aha! At least now, somebody is attempting to beat Google at his own game.

Thanks for the head-up. Only these come in from my mind, the more, the merrier!

Displaying favicon – that’s great. No wonder they’re not afraid of Google, ;-)

See you around. Greetings and lotta loves from Malaysia.

  3. ArahMan7 » I will agree with you! The more the merrier. I just hope that Google doesn’t start adding features that other search engines have created just to grab that popularity. This is fine though, if Google buys the company and then adds those functions. Otherwise it looks like stealing.
    Thanks for visiting.

  4. ronnie ferez » You are right! It is a bold statement. But I would guess that anyone that is currently developing a search engine these days, has to feel that way. How do you compete with something so big as Google, without having a bit of tenacity? Google has gone from being a noun to being an everyday verb. People run around saying “Just Google it!” and everyone seems to know what that means. That is huge!
But I think Quintura is on to something with their slogan and who knows, maybe in a short while everyone will be saying “Just Quintura it!”

Not real crazy about the right hand scroll bar. They should get rid of that.

I also noticed that their search results are very poor. They tend to favor some sites and exclude others. Not what I would call an unbiased search engine.

    Google will bury them!
