After much delay, the MySpace Developer Platform has finally launched and it looks like it wil be a winner. and it should be so given the stakes MySpace got against Facebook.
However, the platform is the one that have officially launched, not to be confused with actual apps and widget being available for users to use, not yet. that will be in about a month when actual app releases to the userbase will show up.
One of the things MySpace did here different than Facebook was democratize the application and widget development by letting everyone start at the very same time with the same resources and rules. so that ensure that the platform will be seen and a fair one compared to Facebook.
The main assets of MySpace data will be usable into the widgets and applications so they can access and display them into them. that means a Mp3 Player app would be able to not only play a song but tell the owner of the profile who of his friend player that song, when and what other songs have they played. for visitors the information would taken from overall data the application has as raw stats, like how many users the app has, from where users are, who of the power MySpace users (the ones with more friends) have used it, etc. you get the idea.
So there you have it, want to make a MySpace App or Widget?, now you can, and it will be recomforting to know that even the small developers will be at the same level widget powerhouses like RockYou.
That may truly allow for MySpace new slogan “A place for Developers” to live up to the hype.
