I remember when the first tryout for having Embedded Flash Based Magazines appeared. the problem was that they were heavy, choppy, slow and it was not well done at all.
Now that is in the past after lots of experimentation in terms of rendering images inside flash and flash magazines are now good and ready to go. that also is true for having them as embeddables. But after having archived to do it well. i had not seen a truly good publishing service from where you could automatically generate such Flash Objects, much less a Social Catalogue with them.
That is what Issuu is about. providing not only the means to create the Flash objects but also a social catalogue where to place it and hopefully build a service around it. From what i have seen, the idea is good, the execution is good, the end factor of having a social interest driven catalogue is spot on.
The only problem right now may be the business model to sustain the service. i do have figured how could it be sorted out easily, the problem is that it is not on Flash but Silverlight or at minimum Flex/Air.
But lets not think in that right now, the important thing is that now you can have a very good service where you can create Flash based E-zines as easily distributable objects that can be placed around various social networks and platforms like Blogger, Facebook, MySpace, orkut, firendster, livejournal and typepad Or simply grab the default HTML code and place it whetever you want to.
