To say that things change fast in the internet would be a understatement, they change from one day to another. just last week Issuu finally broke into mainstream blogs and generated atention. i reviewed their service and posted about it. and as i said, it was good. but it needed better controls and customization.
Now Scribd open into this week with a huge news of a new Document viewer made in flash. nothing that we had not seen before most thought. and while that remains true. the form, factors and execution of scribd new Document Viewer done in flash goes further from what we had seen so far.
And so iPaper appears. a Document Viewer AND Reader that combines all the advancements done in Flash from the last 2 years into one offering us a way to easily offer a online version to view and read documents and share them as well.
and then, they took it further into a sweet spot for everyone by releasing a platform along it by offering an API and a Ad network for the Documents so you can also monetize your content.
So in one single blow they passed from competing with docstoc and services like that to compete directly with services like issuu, slideshare, and even to some extent Adobe own Adobe Share and Adobe PDF Ads.
On regards to the widget, there is nothing to be said that can beat seeing it in action:
so now you can share documents, presentations , books, magazines and even big batches of photos on the same Widget in your Blog, in your site, Myspace, etc and it may even make you good money.what is not to like?
if you still need to see a more detailed video demo and read more about iPaper you can check both things in the same page at scribd iPaper presentation page:
via Scribd Blog

One feature thats missing from the widget that is available on the full screen version…the page buttons.
I would like to see the buttons that allow you to skip to the next or previous pages, right on the widget.
Otherwise…this thing rocks!

That is not entirely true derek. yes i does lacks some controls from the full version, and if this were silverlight it would be able not only to do a full screen right on where the widget is placed but would be able to have all the controls and even handle video inside the pages.
but if you see the slide mode, it gain slide controsl, the only one missing are the controls on book mode an i suspect that also has to do with the format the document is.
other than that, this thing is incredible when looked as an overall platform.
