Widgetbox remains one of the top 5 widget startups up until now. but it is clear that they now could aim for the top spot because in a recent and quite unexpected turn of events, a former investor of the company will be now the CEO of Widgetbox. this is a very notable thing beyond the oddball moment. because it truly cements that Widgets are indeed a perceived as on of the new great things.
Something we have been seen in the recent months with all the widget startup funding craze, Widgets ads craze and a incredible explosion of interest from the marketing world in Widgets as the new way to do targeted marketing online.
the new CEO is will price and just before joining Widgetbox as a CEO, he was part of Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, a investing company that has poured over half a billion dollars into web start ups so far, and one of the investing companies where widgetbox has raised money from.
Techcrunch had the exclusive to this news and even showcased a letter of Will Price and his logic for leaving a Investing Company for a Widget focused company, the opening lines are more than enough introduction and reiteration of points i have already explored in this blog:
“The best markets and the best companies ride the tide of history. Widgets are such a market.
The Web’s tide is open, distributed, standard, user-defined, and, in many ways, the most powerful force of the modern era. Widgets are not a fad, or web 2.0-hype, but fundamentally they are the unit by which users are assembling and defining their web experience.
Widgets are portable applications that are user-defined, user-assembled, and consumed independent of the source of the underlying content, commerce, and application functionality. The combination of user-control and decentralized interaction to important services represents an important paradigm shift in how users discover, select, and consume the best of the web”
Pretty much validates all the point in favor of widget don´t it?. yeah i think so too.
With this move, it is obvious that money will continue to roll into widget startups in a good measure without sights of stopping for the short term future.
