NBC News Learn new project called iCue is a perfect example of using widgets to aid and better focus atention and interaction without distracting the user and also good use of Promo Widgets to complement a web service thanks to a Clearspring Widget in flash that can go anywhere thanks to LaunchPad High Spread Sharing.

But what is iCue?. iCue is a interactive info Media sandbox that lets you interact with already editorialized News Casts from NBC that you can digest and get some learning from thanks to trivias, games and info classification games.

That may not sound at all fun for some (or most). but for those interested in news and in political news it should be treat to try out. the name icue comes from the newcaster trade of having their guidelines in cue cards as they phase through a program and also read the teleprompter and get directions via their ear mic from production. yeah, it does look natural after awhile right?. well it is not.

So iCue is making your own track of news bits and news report.

Clever and it truly shows it is made by and for news junkies. now comes the why. why would they release such a service?. easy. it makes icue the perfect way to measure and analyze news engagement to make news editorialization easier which in result would generate news programming more interesting to users.

Returning to the Widget and the thinking behind the Widget Card in the service. i must say i love it. i love the integration done in the Widget and the service.

The iCue Card Widget serves as a multi purpose, multi tasking high end widget for the whole service because it is:

So, it can reproduce media, dispay info about the media, display transcripts from the media your seen, do all the service site main interaction in the widget and the truly genius part, all the engagement is also done in the widget so a user can tag, leave comments, make notes, etc. without leaving the Widget.

This is the kind of integration i want to see in high end web widgets hopefully this year. so everything in a web service can be extended into the widget. just imagine if you could leave comments and do all YouTube Interactions inside the Video Embeddables?. while in this case is al happening into a closed environment. the prospect of seeing it in the Open is what we should look forward next year when both in widget Advertising and Analytics have been taken care of.

iCue as a idea and as service is solid and the way the service uses its widgets it is stellar.
