Hi Derek, those are all valid points. But, this is where it gets tough for companies. What is their business model, how do they value traffic and exposure, what is the difference in site features and widget features, etc.

The simple widgets are easy to do and make decisions on. The more full featured widgets force companies to look deeply at what they are doing, why they are doing it and how they make money doing it.

@Ming: I do like the widget. It worked really well. I was just expecting the ability to purchase something as this seems the logical next step.

as with JobFinder…I would expect the ability to easily create a listing. This may be beyond the scope of the widget at this point, but it might be a consideration for the future.
Also consider an easy way to send a “found job” via email (or SMS) to another party.

These are just ideas that pop into my head and I didn’t mean to imply that any of these widgets were lacking in any way at all. (Papa John’s incident)

I agree that the gadget could use some work, but I’m not sure that their intention was necessarily to build the best widget. They actually have a pretty good API and my guess is that they are showcasing the gadget in hopes that developers will build tons of widgets/services/apps/sites to drive traffic for them.

I haven’t blogged about them in the past since I didn’t implement their API in a widget. But, you can check out the simple facebook app implementation at http://apps.facebook.com/my_gamercard/trailers.php

Also, they run and support game trailers (as in the example) and songs in addition to movie trailers you mentioned.
