The last big update from netvibes what the news of their CEO stepping down and they announcing they were going Open Source. now a month later. they have some news:

Now with Google Search Tab

I hope there was money exchanging hands here. because if that was not the case. the decision to go with Google. competitor #1 to them would be just plain dumb.

But there should be money on that decision. it has to be.

But for what its worth it should come as a welcome feature for Netvibes users and another way to increase engagement for netvibes now that you don`t have to go to another tab and leave netvibes to do a search and every search you do opens in its own netvibes tab.

Netvibes now fully integrated with Google Search

Netvibes Measures its Buzz

Another update is the testing of a new Netvibes Feature. they have hinted before that they wanted to make of netvibes a social network and one of the first steps must be Buzz. not to be confused with the one by Yahoo. Buzz is the way they measure the shared items in Netvibes in the last 48hrs (up to this moment) and as recent as whatever that has been shared in the last hour.

Everything in netvibes can be starred and everything that does will end up in Buzz as a way to track activity in the site.

A sort of Leaderboard with the counts in each shared item and that tracks the popularity of the items. i think it is indeed more of a copy of Yahoo Buzz than of Digg. even if most will of course see it as a Digg-Like feature.

I think it is a good feature to be had and does makes lots of sense in Netvibes. i wonder how much time it will pass for netvibes to add extended member profiles too?. that is of course the most important step if they want to be a Social Network. but features like this are good build up before going that way.

This is of course not enough to battle the new iGoogle but these two new features are a great start.
