NBC 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games Widgets

By now most of you have already enjoyed of the Olympics Games at home and already know that you only need to install Silverlight in order to do the same at NBCOLYMPICS.COM. but how about some widgets with that?. there are and there are plenty of them and they here live and ready to grab since it is such a special occasion.

You can get the code directly from the widget itself or install it almost everywhere thanks to its High Spread Sharing module just like this:

I.-Look below the widget and see the “Add to: “ base and you will see there are some icons. those icons are for the most popular used solutions dedicated to the widget. you can install directly from those icons but what you want is to go to the High Spread Sharing module.

II.-Activate the High Spread Sharing module with the little up sign:

III.-You now have launched it and now you can choose from 26 sharing options for the widget including the generic embed code itself. that is all you need to get the widget.

Maybe you think that what matters is the actual action and that is all you care about. you can get that with the standalone Video widget.
- ATHLETES TO WATCH
  
  While the Olympics is one of the most watched events in the world if not the most watched. it is doubtful you can keep track who are all the athletes and who you should be paying attention to while watching the Olympics. this widgets helps you do that by giving you a little knowledge on that highlighting who could be the shinning stars.
  - MEDAL COUNT
  The Olympic medal counter and tracker for the top five countries racking in all the gold, silver and bronze.
  - RESULTS & SCHEDULES
  A even of the magnitude of the Olympics is close to needing a guide in order to be able to watch it all that can get to be good. while it is not a guide it is the closest to it and it will provide you with the schedules for the sport events and the expected results timeframe.
  - TV & ONLINE LISTINGS
  What good does it makes if you want to enjoy of the Olympics and still get to miss the regular broadcasts?. that is no good so getting a TV guide for the Olympics is totally needed. if you instead prefer to watch it online then you also need the listing so you don`t have to fiddle around looking for the content, this widget got them.
  
  Some thoughts on these Widgets
  
  These must be the most notorious and high profile widgets for 2008. you cannot get more mainstream than this. the widgets were made by ClearSpring and i must say they are excellently well done and i can imagine they required special tweaking to make sure the widgets could offer a a better performance that other widgets like these.
  
  What struck me more was the new “add to:” base , the further improvement of the ClearSpring Springboard (the High Spread Sharing module) and more than anything the accompanying High Spread Sharing module in the NBCOLYMPICS.COM widgets page. this must be the best and more feature HSS module i have seen yet. they did not take any chances and added a second HSS module in order to make the widgets as shareable as they can possibly can get to be.
  
  This Clearspring Launchpad module goes apart the widget and it has everything:
  - 25 quick install icons for posting the widgets.
  - 2 email sharing options
  - 22 Bookmarking (including social news sharing) options
  - 3 Desktop Quick Install options for the desktop version of the widgets (yahoo widget engine, vista sidebar and mac dashboard, it only lacked a google desktop option)
  - 2 embed options, one in JS and one for the Flash Embed code.
  Truly insane. this is exactly the kind of implementation any service should strive for and should be take in count for any Widget. lets hope we get to see this a common practice from now on, my hat is off to Hooman Radfar (Clearspring CEO) and his team for getting this gig.

Hey buddy, thanks for the great write-up. The folks at NBC are an example of a traditional media company that is taking serious strides in pushing the limits of Social Media. Definitely a great group and we are lucky to be working with them. Hope all is well with you.
