Valentines Day giftbox widget

February 6th, 2009

Here’s a simple Valentines Day embeddable widget that is supposed to allow you to customize a message for the people that will see it.

You can hover over the widget and the box will open to reveal some flowers and a chocolate heart that says “LOVE”. Clicking on the box will open up the ability to drag and drop letters onto a heart to spell a message. I wouldn’t spend too much time doing this though. It seems that the message disappears as soon as you click the little strawberry icon. For some reason, after clicking on the strawberry, you get to a third screen that shows you a picture of what I think is chocolate cake with strawberries on top and another strawberry icon. Bizarre!

This widget uses JavaScript and loads really fast. Clicking through the various aspects can be tricky and I’m not too sure about the reliability of it saving your message.

Clearspring has implemented a few updates to its Launchpad sharing service that give developers more customizability and control.

Customized default popular sharing services – The features that come up as “popular” in the Launchpad menu can now be customized. By default, services listed are a combo of what a user has selected before and the most popular services – changing what’s popular will override this.

Customized color – Color is no longer hard coded by Clearspring. Color in the menu’s sub-pages and input error messages are now driven by what colors were specified for the menu in the console.

Ratings and comments
– Ratings and comments can now be turned off on the widget home page.

Silverlight PhotoSlider

February 2nd, 2009

Silverlight PhotoSlider is a different kind of slideshow. it is meant to be used to high light articles and these photo sliders can be seen done in Ajax and Flash and usually used in sites like Engadget or other big blogs. that don`t means you cannot have your own Photo Slider and have it in Silverlight no less.

The widget sustain a timed transition loop, allow for user slide input, show articles descriptions and the slides work as active links.

This comes from Italian Silverlight developer already known for Silverlight PhotoGallery and Silverlight MinoPlayer. this should give confidence that the widget is solid.

As usual given this is not a widget service but a installable one. you just need to host it in your website or blog by following some very simple instructions. nothing anyone with a website or hosted blog cannot do without a hitch.

Official Interactive Twitter Flash Widget

February 2nd, 2009

I don`t know how this passed me up but it must be more than 30 days or so old because i have not seen it mentioned in no one of the big blogs. i guess that we are so used to Widgets made from the Twitter API that we no longer look directly from the source.

But fortunately i stumbled with it on a blog and saw that it was a Official Twitter Widget in Flash. and not only that but that it was interactive!. you can check it out live right in this post.

This widget is the equivalent to a Web To IM Widget but for Twitter. so that would be Web to Tweet. that means your visitors can reply to your tweets directly from the Twitter Widget. that is really cool i am just surprised you are unable to update your own status from the Widget too while you are at it..tmp37  tmp35

The design is sound, you count with the info of the Twitter user if you are logged in and it allow you to follow the user right from the widget too.

But it is certainly one of the best Twitter Flash Widgets  around and it is a good thing it is a Official one.

You can get it in 3 sizes and 3 colors. you don`t have much help in terms of quick install link or high spread sharing for this Widget. the implementation of that leaves a lot to be desired, Twitter has not really promoted it and it is little bit heavy. but even then it is a great widget. now we only need some more themes or color customization  for it and the option to tweet from it and  we are all set. it would be the best widget around. right now it is just pretty close to being so.
