Issuu Now With Better API’s

August 10th, 2009

It is nice to see that issuu continues in the race for the Digital Document space. The last big update was when they unveiled Smart Look ending 2008 with a bang. Now they seem to be doing well because they finally will let you upload documents via API. That means those using Issuu for their Online Magazine, Gazette or Whatever can now integrate issuu directly from their end and that if someone want to build a Issuu powered application, they can do so because the API now supports  Searching, Viewing (or calling a Issuu Viewer) and Uploading.

Good all around. I think issuu new improvements now should come from having their viewer widget adapted for Mobiles and to be ready to be finger friendly in big screens now that Tablets, Convertibles and Touch Enabled Monitors will begin to surge with Windows 7 release later this year.

Vizio Will Have It’s Own Widget Platform

Serving as a extra from what it was known about Vizio new connected HDTV’s that will have Yahoo Widget Engine and OnDemand Video Services is that Vizio decided to not depend on Whatever Stream Widgets come via Yahoo TV Widgets or being forced to collaborate with Yahoo to get new widgets, like Verizon FIOS’s does (so far) with the Widget Bazaar. Vizio will have its own Widget Platform and will provide a SDK for developers interested in the new “Stream Widgets” space that comes with Widgets made for TV’s. This is thanks to the fact that the HDTV’s supports Adobe Flash. So it is only about Vizio showing developers the guidelines and toolkit to developers so widgets can be developed in the style Vizio wants them to be done. This way they will be swiftly included for use in the Vizio Connected HDTV’s.

CNET got a nice First Look video that touches on that and show the Two vizio models for release starting next month.

From the very same CNET, Erica Ogg makes her case on how Vizio offering is going to stand out with these Connected HDTV’s and it makes for good read too:

Twitter New Official Profile And Live Search Widgets

August 10th, 2009

Twitter

It could be said that 2009 was finally the year for Twitter to become mainstream and with that many changes came straight from them that were long long overdue. Starting with the Official Flash Widget and not that long ago with the additions of new Javascript Widgets.

So now you can finally get a proper Twitter Profile Widget in Javascript:

And the other change that came to twitter recently was a refocus to search and being “The pulse of the planet” (Twitter own words) for the web. So Twitter changed their homepage from a very reminiscent “Blogger Like”  homepage to one in the style of a Search Engine. So they also got a semi-real time Twitter Search Widget:

Both widgets work exactly the same the only difference is that the search one will look for a open query as a word, phrase or #hashtag. And the profile one only looks for the query “from:username” to display only your personal twitter updates and has a little username picon (personal/photo icon) and username tag at the top. They also come with the very same options. So you can choose size and color for them and decide if you want results to be displayed in a loop or not. I find that a little bit disappointing, but twitter has always had the pretext of being “simple” and “minimalistic” to go by. So not much use to criticize them if they deliver just that.

Still a good thing to have and to add to your blog if you use Twitter.
