BackType TweetCount widget adds Twitter function to your blog

November 29th, 2009

What is BackType:

BackType is a real-time, conversational search engine. We index and connect millions of conversations from blogs, social networks and other social media so you can find out what people are saying about the topics that interest you. BackType was founded in June, 2008.

tweetcount widget:
The above widget uses the BackType API to help track the tweets about your posts and allows readers to “ReTweet” your post on Twitter.
This is really a simple and easy way to integrate Twitter functionality directly into your blog’s content.
For WordPress users there is the TweetCount plugin. There appears to be no difference between the JavaScript widget and the WordPress plugin.

BackType’s other widgets:

Add related content via the BackType Comments Search Widget.

This widget displays search results – show off what people are saying about you, your company, your products, etc with this widget. Simply paste this HTML snippet where you would like the widget to appear and replace “SEARCH_TERM” with the term you would like to display results for:

In this case, I added the search term “widgets”.

also available:

My Comments–Display your comments and profile information.
My Blogroll–Show a list of sites you comment on most.
(both require a FREE account with BackType)

Bart Simpson clock widget from Widgipedia

November 23rd, 2009

The Simpsons animated television series have proven their staying power by being on air for 21 seasons. (via Wikipedia/thesimpsons)

Today there is a Bart Simpson clock available at

As you can see, it is an analog style clock with an image of Bart Simpson on a skateboard. The widget is a bit busy with the flashing background. But it seems right on par for the character involved.

Widgepedia supplies both a script based embed and a Flash based embed, so you should have no issues placing this wherever you desire. they even have a user friendly MySpace placement soulution.

Grab the Bart Simpson Clock from Widgepedia today!

…and if you are a fan of Homer Simpson instead…here is the Homer clock from Widgepedia. (gotta love those eyes on the Duff!)

American Airlines Wi-Fi Widget

November 20th, 2009

American Airlines is launching its new AA Wi-Fi Widget that enables customers to identify Wi-Fi equipped flights 24 hours prior to departure. The tool allows travelers to find out if their AA flight will be scheduled with Wi-Fi enabled aircraft. American Airlines inflight Wi-Fi is provided by Gogo Inflight Internet

A brief video on how Gogo works.

Internet connectivity is now available on all Boeing 767-200 aircraft, select MD80’s and is coming soon to our 737 fleet. You can enjoy complimentary access to all has to offer — book flights, hotel or car rental, check your AAdvantage® account and more. And with prices as low as $5.95 per session, Gogo® Inflight Internet provides full broadband web, VPN and e-mail access so you can stay connected during your flight.

This widget can be embedded in your blog, web site and social pages. Its written in Flash, so the usual JavaScript limitations aren’t a factor.

Connectivity via Wi-Fi is becoming a necessity instead of just a convenience. As this trend progresses we will see many more instances of these types of tools that help you predict your ability to connect.
What I found missing here is a desktop version of this widget. A Windows 7, Mac or Linux version would be smart. But I think the best play would come in the form of a Smart Phone App! People are far more likely to use their iPhone to search for this information on a “spur of the moment” basis.
