Embed any UnSpun list

July 9th, 2010

UnSpun allows you to create lists for any topic, idea, product etc. These lists can be embedded, shared replicated, emailed, Facebooked etc.

One really cool feature that i noticed about the embed is the fact that it resizes itself to fit where you placed it.
These lists are interactive for your readers, friends, relatives and even strangers.

How it works

Let’s say you love red wine and are always pleased to discover a good bottle for a reasonable price.

First. You create a list titled: “Great Red Wines for under $20.00”

Second. You add listings (and descriptions if you like) that you feel are worthy of being part of the list.

Third. You share this list with your wine-loving friends and ask them to (1) contribute their wine ideas and/or vote on those already on the list and (2) share the list with their friends who also like wine.

Fourth. Return to the list you created and view what other people have contributed.

Fifth. Over time, people that you don’t know will contribute new wines to the list. The value of this resource will constantly grow so check back and keep on learning.

Sixth. Repeat with a new list idea—perhaps the “most important things to consider when training for a triathlon” or “Best Pizza in your city” or “Things Obama needs to focus on” or “Funniest Paris Hilton Quotes” or “Great things to do with your kids (in your city) on a rainy day” or “Best holes in all of golf” or “Greatest Sports Books Ever” or……

YouTube Mobile site. I wish more mobile websites were this good

July 7th, 2010

Google wants to allow excellent YouTube access to everyone with a decent mobile browser.
They do not want to limit it to those with app capabilities. (besides…the apps kinda suck compared to this!)

Google seems to be on the track to create awesome mobile websites for more and more of their services.

YouTube Mobile gets a kick start (from the YouTube blog)

It’s well known that the mobile internet is huge and growing fast; what’s surprising is exactly how fast. According to a recent report, within 5 years more users will connect to the internet via mobile devices than desktop PCs. YouTube consumption on mobile devices has also grown considerably — playbacks were up 160% in 2009 over the previous year. And we’re excited to announce that YouTube Mobile now receives more than 100 million video playbacks a day. This is roughly the number of daily playbacks that YouTube.com was streaming when we joined forces with Google in 2006.

We launched YouTube on mobile devices in 2007 with about 1,000 videos available on the mobile site (m.youtube.com). While this suddenly opened up the possibility to access videos on the go, our site, mobile browsers and the hardware had limitations that prevented the mobile experience from keeping up with YouTube on the desktop. Today, more than ever, we know that you want to be able to find and access your favorite videos wherever you are. That’s why we’ve been working hard to roll out an updated version of the mobile site.

Here’s what’s new about the new mobile site:

* It’s really fast.

* The new user interface incorporates larger, more touch friendly elements, making it easier to access videos on the go.
* It incorporates the features and functionality you’ve come to expect from the .com site, like search query suggestions, the options to create playlists, the ability to designate “favorite,” “like,” or “unlike” videos directly from your device.
* As we make improvements to Youtube.com, you’ll see them quickly follow on our mobile site, unlike native apps which are not updated as frequently.

As the world continues to go mobile, we think this is a great improvement for users who want a more consistent YouTube across many devices, no matter where they are. We’re launching in English only today, but will be rolling it out in other languages in the coming months. You can access the latest YouTube mobile site from your iPhone or Android browser. JibJab’s latest is a parody on Madmen, the hit show from AMC.

If you head on over to the Madmen official site, you can create your own Madmen avatar and then download various size images of your creation for use anywhere images can be placed. Your personalised Holiday Match Maker

July 6th, 2010

If your Facebook profile was a holiday destination, what would it be?

Ever wondered what your Facebook profile would be if it was a holiday destination?
Find out with the Holiday Match Maker from Halifax.

The Holiday Match Maker from Halifax. It’s one of those rare things, a Facebook application that is genuinely useful and entertaining at the same time. It’s also pretty clever. By analysing the content of your profile, it will ’calculate’ what your ideal holiday destination is, where you should stay, what you should do, what the weather’s like at the moment and how many plastic Eiffel Towers you can buy for a fiver. Now it doesn’t get much more useful than that. Oh, and it will also point you in the direction of Halifax Travel Money, something you might find handy when going on holiday.
