Smart Taskbar app for Android

August 28th, 2010

Get instant app access from anywhere in your phone

Smart Taskbar is an interesting Android app that gives you instant access to all your apps and tasks without having to leave your currently running task.
With a simple click on a small, semi transparent, half circle button located on the right side of your screen, the app is activated. A transparent window pops open that allows you access to all of your apps.

Smart Taskbar also allows you to select 5 ‘Quick Launch’ apps that appear at the top to give you instant access to some of your most used apps. You do have to do some secondary thinking here. Which apps do you find that you are in need of when you are currently using an app?

One thing I did notice, the Smart Taskbar button is even visible when you are in camera mode. This makes is so you can access other important information and only be one back arrow away from where you started.

Developer description:

Launch any application in 2 steps. Slide your finger or click icon anytime to bring up a mini sidebar for super fast app launching also works as app organizer and task switcher. The most revolutionary way to use your app.

YAPT is a PushToTalk alternative for Android

August 25th, 2010

YAPT is a new Android app that gives you the ability to initiate a PTT (Push To Talk) conversation with other YAPT users. These messages are then sent as text messages or e-mails, so it will give you the freedom to reply whenever convenient.

This app is so new that you won’t likely see other users that you know. However, it’s dead simple to invite users to use YAPT right through the YAPT contact interface. Your phone contacts are brought up and you can scroll through to see who you want to invite. Then a pre-canned message with a link to YAPT in the Android Marketplace is presented with the option to add text if you desire.

YAPT is in beta so please email your bugs and suggestions. [email protected]

Windows Phone 7 vs Nexus One vs iPhone4 Browser war

August 23rd, 2010

Warning… this comparison uses all stock browsers. I know this may be appealing to most noob users (who probably would never see this comparison anyhow) but from a power user perspective (rooted&flashed) its pretty mundane. On that note, thanks PocketNow.com

I have one question.

Do you even use the stock browser on Android? …or even iPhone?

I have tried Opera Mobile…yuck! The only thing Opera Mobile has going for it… multiple platforms. (Android, iPhone, Windows Mobile etc.)
Opera Mobile may render pages fast, but they are hardly ever complete web pages. You are always left wondering…am I missing something? I always felt compelled to check the page in another browser just to make sure. No Thanks!

I like Dolphin HD personally. It might not be the fastest (I don’t know or really care!) but it does what I want it to do. Dolphin HD delivers a great browsing experience with easy sharing options and an awesome bookmark manager.

Spotted in the wild.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab. The reported 7″, Android based tablet from Samsung is recorded in the wild. The device is being used on what appears to be a bus.

The user confirms some questions about the tablet but won’t go so far as to confirm the processor.

Thank you Electronista.com

Here is a big closeup of the Galaxy Tab
