Best Cell Phone comparison site

October 16th, 2010

compare-cellphones.org covers Smartphones and Tablets as well!

compare-cellphones.org is one of the most comprehensive phone comparison websites available today. (far better than PhoneScoop.com) You can choose to compare just about any phone, past, present, recently announced and possibly even leaked phones. (provided that details are leaked as well)

All you need to do is enter the two phones that you would like to compare. Once you start typing, you get a dropdown list providing you with nearly every phone imaginable. Just choose the ones you want and hit the Compare button. You will be presented with images of both phones and a list of ‘Reasons to Choose’ one phone over the other. There is also a convenient list of Pors and Cons as compared to ALL cellphones. You are able to view multiple images of the phones being compared and also leave comments on the comparison page if you wish.

You can easily share your comparisons on Facebook with the built in Facebook ‘Like’ button.
(I would like to see more sharing options…Twitter, Buzz, email, etc.)

As I mentioned earlier…some of the phones listed aren’t even phones at all. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a tablet Computer that just so happens to have built-in phone capabilities. I’m sure this is why the Apple iPad isn’t available for comparison…wait…what? Is it available for comparison? But it doesn’t have phone capabilities. So why is it here?

Skype for Android available but broken

Get Skype for Android

The hot topic this morning is the release of the Skype app for Android. You can see posts from Lifehacker, Techcrunch, Gizmodo and the first out of the gate (that I saw) Android Police.

Skype for Android has been missing from the Market until today. Unfortunately it seems that Skype calls in the U.S. are WiFi only and the app is not available in the Android Market in China or Japan.

Most comments in the Android Market point to the large size of the app. 8mb download, 13mb to 14 mb installed. The size may not be much of a factor for someone with a Droid X or similar phone with 8gb internal storage, but many, many users are still sporting devices with mb size internal storage. The Skype app does not support app2sd. So you will not be able to put it on your SD card and still use it.

One commenter from Facebook had this to say:

This is seriously getting annoying that so many big-name applications are not relevant for early-Android adopters. I’m still on 1.6 and there is thus no chance short of rooting my phone and thus voiding my warranty of having access to my Skype account on the go.
