Craigslist for Android No App Needed

February 28th, 2011 by Derek Anderson Leave a reply »

I have recently been searching Craigslist for a fishing boat for me and my 11 year old son. I love Craigslist for the endless amounts of stuff for sale, but their mobile offerings leave something to be desired.

Its no secret that I am an Android fan. So I decided to search out the Craigslist app in the Android Market. Apparently, Craigslist doesn’t have an app for Android. There are a bunch of different apps for Craigslist from different developers, but some of the reviews weren’t so favorable. Besides, I have an older Android (HTC Hero) that doesn’t have much internal space left, so I wanted to see if I could find a way to use what I currently have to keep on top of the boat listings.

Google Reader + Craigslist

I noticed the other day that Craigslist is kind enough to provide an RSS feed for your searches. Well…this is awesome!
I can simply setup my Craigslist boat search and then subscribe to the RSS feed using Google Reader as my default RSS reader.
Google has been kind enough to make Google Reader mobile enabled so it works seamlessly on my Android phone. I also now have the ability to share, like, add/edit tags and even send Craigslist ads via email. All without having to install any apps whatsoever!

If you are having trouble finding the RSS feed for Craigslist or any other page you may want to add to Google Reader…try looking in the ‘Bookmarks’ or ‘Favorites’ menu item for RSS information. Or do like I do and hit up Google for the information 🙂
