New Challenge to XDA Developers…Beat Restrictions on Android Movie Rentals

May 22nd, 2011

“due to requirements related to copyright protection” Google is blocking access to ‘Android Market Movie Rentals’ for any ‘Rooted’ Android devices. You will get an error message when you attempt to try — “Failed to fetch license for [movie title] (error 49)”.

Apparently anyone who is willing to root their device, and risk voiding their warranty in order to upgrade their phones (Carriers use ‘No Upgrade’ to push new device sales) is automatically a pirate that is going to somehow steal a streaming movie from the Android Marketplace. I smell Bullshit!

Notification Toggle for Android

May 9th, 2011

Notification Toggle allows you to add more functionality to the Android status bar. You can quickly switch or access WiFi, Bluetooth, Silent mode, Screen rotation and Flight mode and even adjust the screen brightness.

In the settings, you can choose which notifications should be active. On some devices, you can also enable the ‘all in one’ notification, which lets you toggle all features in just one notification (unfortunately this doesn’t work on some devices – you will get a popup to select the toggle feature if your device doesnt support multiple notification clicks)
