PhoneTab is my name for a Crossover device called the Galaxy Note just announced by Samsung. (Crossover meaning a combination Smartphone and Tablet.)
Smartphone for obvious reasons such as 3G/4G connectivity and a dialer. Tablet for other reasons such as screen size and stylus. Microsoft? Hardly! This thing is Android all the way.
The Galaxy Note comes with a dual-core 1.4GHz processor (the same as in the Galaxy Tab 7.7), 1GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of built-in storage, an 8-megapixel rear- and 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and a dedicated stylus dubbed S Pen. In the finest tradition of old school PDAs, there’s even a slot in the 9.65mm-thick case of the Note where the S Pen slides in.
Presently running Android 2.3.5, the Galaxy Note has added an appreciated new feature on the UX front. A row of five launcher icons can now be found at the bottom of the lock screen, which can each be dragged upwards to unlock the phone into the particular app.
Two videos that help explain the device.
