The Xmarks iPhone app… for $0.99 you can access all of your saved bookmarks from Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari. You will of course have to make sure that you also have the Xmarks extension installed in your favorite browser on your computer in order to save and access those bookmarks. This is really easy to do. Just head on over to Xmarks.com and click on the big orange ‘Install Now‘ button. Your current browser will automatically be detected and you will be prompted to install Xmarks.
A recently added feature of Xmarks will allow you to save and access your Internet passwords. (apparently not yet available for the iPhone app)

Amplify.com is an awesome way to clip web content and share it to many different places like Twitter, Tumblr, Blogger, Google Buzz, WordPress, Facebook and many more.

Usage is really simple. Either manually create an account with Amplify.com or sign in using Twitter or Facebook and add (drag & drop) a JavaScript based BookMarklet to your Bookmarks toolbar and start clipping and sharing across the Internet.

Clearspring acquired AddThis. i was talking about just last week while commenting on the MadKast acquistion by ShareThis that a true competition to ShareThis was needed. i say that even considering that Widgets Lab is using ShareThis for its Quick Content Sharing or Social Bookmarking and Sharing as you may see it best.

While the Acquisition of MadKast by ShareThis was purely technologic and recruiting perfect addition to its team. Clearspring acquisition of AddThis goes the other way around. Clearspring don`t needs more Tech, Analytics or new Team Members. AddThis just provides a strong brand name, mindshare and of course the marketshare they needed to make their Launchpad for Blogs Widget to work. That is right while pretty much no one paid attention to Clearspring version of ShareThis. there was one. Justin Thorp even added context to the why Clearspring decided to go with it on blog post looking at the last Technorati State of the Blogosphere report.

Then it came the sudden acquisition of  Madkast by ShareThis. now it creates me the doubt if ShareThis knew in advance that Clearspring was eyeing their #1 competitor?. my guess is that yes. ShareThis is one of the best funded Widget Startups. it could have bought AddThis if they truly wanted it unless they had thought the price was too high for something they could end up getting done in the long haul. a acquisition of AddThis by Clearspring put this in perspective but also in question to me.

Now we are left with to big independent Widget Buttons in Tell-A-Friend and in AddToAny. maybe they could join into one for a third competitor. otherwise is very clear that the only competition will be with AddThis and ShareThis. just as it already was for the last 6 months or even the last year.

I like the idea behind Iterasi. i like the way it works and what can be used for.iterasi is a bookmarking service that not only stores the link of the site you bookmark, but the site itself in the state it was wen you found it. it captures it in time for you to revisit exactly like when you first found it. they have now added mac support and a time scheduler.

In terms of Widgets, iterasi got a very very basic set of offferings:

Given the recent craze for digital documents and the dynamic boorkmarking iterasi does. it would be great if they added a Public Page viewer widget. even in a iframe so you could make the iterasi experience truly portable. a saved page that could behave just like a digital document would be a nice evolution for something like iterasi.

iBegin Share is a Quick Content Sharing solution just like ShareThis and Add To Any for blog. but unlike those two other solutions these is the fully Open Source version and that also uses the Open Share Icon for Quick Content Sharing that is a direct contender to ShareThis icon.

If the name “iBegin” string a cord of familiarity and you don`t know why is because while they do offer this Widget solution, their business is focused and geared to something completely different that is the Local Business Search for USA and Canada and the selling of Business Listings in both countries.

Right now you can only use a Auto Hosted Version or a WordPress Plugin version of this widget so the appeal of this solution maybe be limited.

As with their competitor you are presented with a Blog Button  in your posts that will activate the Quick Content Sharing Windows.

After clicking it you a presented with four categories:

Bookmarks

As with ShareThis it presents you with the Top Bookmarking Sites, Social News Sites and Social Networks,etc. the nature of the Widget also thinks in you extending what is offered and supported.

So changing and adding sites is allowed.

E-mail

You count with a quick e-mailing form in case you want to share the post with someone in mind right away. i have tested it myself and it works like a charm every time.

My Computer

You can also Generate a PDF or WORD (.doc 2000-2003 common format) from any post with this and i have also tested it with several posts and it worked out great. the PDF`s and the Word documents are not of the utmost quality but for reference or archival purposes they are more than enough. you can also change and route other online solutions if you so desire.

Printer

it generated a printable version of your post and it also calls for printing afterward. think of it as the feature you got in E-mail printable version option but for a blog

So there you go. a very easy and feature complete solution. i have successfully hosted a version of the Sand alone version to try out and it worked good while it does ask for way a lot more user proactive involvement with the widget.

The WordPress version is very straightforward and i took me 5 minutes to upload it, activate it, tweak it and start using it in this very blog. so your are welcome to try it out in this very post.

Conclusions

There is a obvious immense room of improvement in the Widget and i wish they would have set up a Project page for it if they were going to slow pace the development of the widget. this kind of widget needs more versions. more in the case of Typad, Movable Type, Live Journal and Blogger. if they were not going to develop versions for those platform, they instead should provide more documentation for someone to do it ,etc.

As i said. there may be a limited appeal to this widget because in real terms in only supports WordPress. thing that does perfectly because it even got stats for within your Dashboard for the iBegin Share Widget.

That is why i decided to give it a try. If you are in WordPress the plugin is pretty much perfect within its limitations if you don`t extend it. if you decide to extend it yourself it can live up to whatever you have in mind.

And that is the problem. this widget is something i would like to be offered at least in the top five true Blogging Platforms.

I look forward to see how this widget may evolve. and i hope it continues to do so.
