Overlay.tv: quick media overlay video embeddable creation

September 10th, 2008

Overlay.tv surprised me. when i first read about it, i thought it was like the lite version of PLYmedia. IT IS. but that turned out to be a great thing. Overlay.tv offers media overlay integration to video embeddables (video widgets) timed to the video. the media in question can be text, graphics, short video, photos and links. this makes it display the overlay content just in the same way viddler displays its video comments as the video rolls. what overlay.tv created was to make a application that resembles the simplicity of Windows Movie Maker, but for the web and that you output in flash video embeddables. that is of course the intention of it because it will feel familiar and anyone will know how to use it just by looking at it.

The process is simple. the video got a good quality the player design screams  “web utility” at the user and the viewer. sometimes this is not a good thing. but in this case it makes the viewer to have a more focused look at it and manages to grasp the attention in a easier way.

Overlay.tv is perfect for any kind of video production because it lets you have effects like the ones you see in professional webcasts without any effort and allows you to make your videos more engaging. no matter if they are personal or your are doing a video podcast. they can also be a good tool to use for screencasting and many more things that it was not even intended because it is so simply to use and yet it what you produce comes with a great quality. totally recommended.

The Overlay.tv service can be used by anyone for free but they also offer customized version for promotions, advertising, marketing and higher profile costumers.

PLYmedia : subtitles, closed captioning, annotations and info overlays for video embeddables

September 3rd, 2008

PLYmedia is start up that does something i have wanted to see in terms of online video from the beginning of the decade where video streaming finally got something that you could do without a problem. the need for it only grew with the arrival of YouTube and start of modern video embeddables. PLYmedia does subtitles, closed captioning and info overlays for video embeddables by providing a layer of information that can work with the common embed code of flash video embeddables. this way. you can embed a video with a subPLY  layer and it will instantly serve the kind of overlay specific to that video.no matter if it is a youtube video. it can be subtitles, closed captioning and of course info overlays. the third is something that can offer extra information related to the video or other kind of information like advertising. this also means it can give you in video linking.

This is a very simplistic rundown but what makes it such a good thing is that it can give out much more than what i just originally wanted and easily evolve into the future.i would not be surprised if they suddenly had a Silverlight solution too. i am sure i will end up doing a post on each of their offerings. it is really that good.
