Firefox 9.0 for Android Now Available

Firefox 9.0 for Android Now Available.

Mozilla appears to be shifting gears towards more of a tablet focused UI instead of concentrating on improving the Firefox smartphone experience.

This shift is understandable, considering that tablet sales dwarf smartphone sales. Who would want a small screen smartphone anyways?

Xmarks app for iPhone

July 24th, 2010

The Xmarks iPhone app… for $0.99 you can access all of your saved bookmarks from Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari. You will of course have to make sure that you also have the Xmarks extension installed in your favorite browser on your computer in order to save and access those bookmarks. This is really easy to do. Just head on over to Xmarks.com and click on the big orange ‘Install Now‘ button. Your current browser will automatically be detected and you will be prompted to install Xmarks.
A recently added feature of Xmarks will allow you to save and access your Internet passwords. (apparently not yet available for the iPhone app)

This is awesome! (if I only had an iPhone)

Key features include:

* works with Xmarks for IE, Firefox, Chrome, and Mac Safari
* access all bookmark folders including your bookmarks toolbar
* bookmark search
* open remote tabs across all your computers & browsers
* built-in browser to view your bookmarks without leaving the app

UPDATE: Version 1.25 is NOW AVAILABLE in the iTunes App Store! This version adds a more streamlined user interface and a fix for the iPad bug in the previous version.

Coming Soon to Xmarks for iPhone:

* improved user interface
* ability to add and edit bookmarks for 2-way sync
* full screen iPad support
* and lots more!

Here is one more tidbit that is noteworthy… If you don’t have an iPhone/iPod you can still access your Xmarks via my.xmarks.com

Mozilla Firefox ‘Home’ app for iPhone

June 29th, 2010

We all know how friendly Apple is to developers that try to add functionality to the iPhone that directly conflicts with Apple proprietary bits.

A mobile Firefox (Fennec) would directly compete with Safari on the iPhone.

So Mozilla has created ‘Firefox Home’. This app will sync your Firefox bookmarks to your iPhone/iPod and allow you to access them through ‘Home’. The app also includes ‘Awesome Bar’ capability, making it far easier to locate the webpage you want.

This is not a browser!

The app is called Firefox Home, and it gives iPhone users instant access to their Firefox browsing history, bookmarks and the set of tabs from their most recent browser session. What’s more, it provides Firefox “Awesome Bar” capability that enables people to get to their favorite web sites with minimal typing. Firefox Home provides an amazing “get up and go” experience. It’s encrypted end-to-end. It’s your home on the Web, wherever you are. And, of course, it’s free. Firefox Home for iPhone is part of a broader Mozilla effort to provide a more personal Web experience with more user control. For devices or platforms where we’re unable to provide the “full” Firefox browser (either technically or due to policy), we aim to provide users with “on the go” instant access to their personal Firefox history, bookmarks and open tabs on their iPhones, giving them another reason to keep loving Firefox on their desktops.
