Flickr Flash Widget Amazes

February 18th, 2009

roytanck.com
Roy has created a very appealing Flash based Flickr widget that displays your photo feed in a globe style format.

Move your pointer around the page close to the widget and the floating photo globe moves with you. Each thumbnail opens its corresponding Flickr page in a new tab.

Roy Tanck‘s Flick Widget requires Flash Player 9 or better.

(I utilized Roy’s Flickr feed here)

An excellent Flash widget that should easily integrate in any blog.

Roy also has a very cool WordPress Tag Cloud widget that displays your blogs tags in a similar structure. It was released in March 2008 and has generated alot of positive feedback.

Flickrin: Flickr Photo Grid Widget Generator

December 16th, 2008

While Flickr got a pretty awesome slideshow widget. it still lacks a good photo grid or photo wall widget. Flickrin is a Photo Grid Widget Generator that can be used in 3 simple steps and in less than a minute.

tmp913

You just visit flickrin web page and you are already to go. even if you don`t have a flickr account. you only need a flickr username from a someone you like the photos of, yourself or any tag you can come up with according to what you would like to make a photo grid of. in this case i asked for any picture with the tag “lolcat”. i put how many rows i wanted since it outputs 5 pics per row in the photo grid.

Once Generated. the result was a photo grid widget in the size and look as you see it in the picture.

Finally you get to choose in what format you want it. in JavaScript if you are going to use it in a website or blog sidebar and don`t want to use flash. or in flash if you are going to put it in a social network, blog entry, etc.

A good Widget made by Quinto Piso, a small software studio from Argentina. and to who i must congratulate for a simple and effective widget generator. the only thing i would like to see is being able to set how many pics per row you can put in order to be able to make photo stripes too. and if it were possible a quick view of the photo option in case you have a medium size or big photo grid so you can preview the photos before jumping to the flickr photo page. but i like flickrin and i recommend it as a good widget.

If you feel a little adventurous to do some little tweaking here and there and upload some files to your host or a place like google pages if you want.

if you are willing to do that. you can get this very cute flickr search. it is already fully made up by Makoto3.com. a japanese silverlight developer. he provides you with the files and the full instructions to get your own widgetized flickr search done.

For instructions check this translated to English page:

Flickr Search on Silverlight 1.0, how to set up

To see the live example set up he has:

Live Example (in japanese)

The best of this flickr search is that is done in Silverlight 1.0. so even if silverlight 2.0 final comes out your flickr search widget will get to work with Silverlight 2.0 since they are back compatible (i saw this in silverlight 2 beta 2) and even linux users can get to see it in moonlight 1.0 (i checked) but what is even cooler is that it will be visible in cellphones running Silverlight Mobile 1.0 (to ship this summer)

TwitterFountain Widget: Fast Stream of Tweets and Flickr Photos at the same time.

June 26th, 2008

There are a lot of widgets for Twitter, and there are a lot of widgets for Flickr.  but how about a Mashlet  that combines the two of them into one?. specially designed for people that get bored easily. that is where TwitterFountain gets into the rescue. This Mashlet (mashup widget) can stream photos by tag from flickr so they can serve as a ever changing background for your Tweets. then just add your Twitter Username and voila. a almost insane burst of photos and tweets together in the same widget. another of those things that could only have came from the Dutch.

Fortunately you can control the crazyness with the widget controls to set the pace of your Photo and Tweet stream, choose the colors and also the size of the widget too. that makes it a cool and unique novelty widget. all of the controls are within the widget so anyone can use it and share it easily.

The Widget is in Flash so it can be placed pretty much everywhere but you will have to copy and paste the code by yourself.
