How do you make sure you take advantage of your company momentum?. You squeeze it and try to make sure you don`t slow down and that momentum turns into your regular speed until you can have another one. Gigya want that. so they changed CEO`s. Eyal Magen. the formal CEO and co-founder will be now the CSO (Chief Strategy Officer) and the new CEO charge will be occupied by David Yovanno. former COO (Chief Operating Officer) of ValueClick. a Online Marketing company.

Makes total sense when you have in consideration that what  gigya do is distribute and market widgets right?. right. but gigya has already said they want to go for the gold and they see gold in Website and Blogs Automatic Socialization. this done by widgets and Widgetization and in the case of gigya. that would be the reason for Gigya Socialize to exist.  a Widget to Leverage Social Graphs into websites and blogs in order for you to make your online property enhanced with social and interactive features.

So, welcome to the new gigya CEO into this crazy space that is Widgets. but since he comes from Online Marketing. Crazy must be the norm. looks like a great fit.

For more into this. Venture Beat got the the goods.

Gigya Reaches #1 Spot Worldwide In Terms Of Widget Companies

October 16th, 2008

image

Gigya got named #1 widget company in all the round world by comscore. this put all the current moves in the Widget Industry into perspective. gigya way of doing things with a more off hands approach to be a enabler to widget distribution and to be light in branding of widgets since they are not a Widget Developer like Clearspring or a Widget Agency like Musestorm or a Widget Distribution Channel in the same vain Widgetbox is has paid off. This incredible surge of growth really proves it and it sure has been the reason for many movements. not only from Clearspring but also from the likes of Widgetbox that is also accelerating lately

So,Unlike other Bloggers. i do rectify when i have been off base. now it is very clear where the main plotline was. it was a Gigya – Clearspring main story after all. what do i mean by this?. well. that Clearspring main worry and main reason to acquire AddThis was not to fend of the quickly growing ShareThis that is now  turning into a big Widget company but to accelerate against Gigya. something they dealt with on both accounts with said AddThis Acquisition since they were in the need of more reach. Gigya then in turn announced its new funding round and its strategy towards the social graph with Gigya Socialize.

I was not wrong but not fully right. so i stand corrected. now it is good to check out how things interconnect. i knew gigya was doing great. i didn`t thought they were doing THIS GREAT. truly amazing to check the numbers from comscore on this:

Gigya Press Release:

comScore Ranks Gigya as Largest Widget Company with More Than 174 Million Unique Widget Viewers Worldwide

Gigya Grows 43% in Five Months; Also Releases Internal Data Showing Average Reach of 25 Unique Users per Installed Widget

Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) October 15, 2008 —

Gigya U.S. & Worldwide Reach
News Facts

Gigya, the largest widget distribution network and social sharing platform, reached more than 174 million unique widget viewers worldwide in August 2008 according to data released this month in comScore’s August Widget Metrix Report.
In addition to ranking as the largest widget platform, Gigya is also the largest widget company in the world in terms of reach according to comScore. Gigya saw a 43 percent increase in worldwide, unique viewer reach since March 2008.
Within the United States, Gigya reached more than 70 million unique widget viewers, representing 37.2 percent of U.S. Internet users. This is a 59 percent increase since March 2008.
Gigya also released its own internal data for the month of August, showing that on average, 25 unique people viewed each installed widget. This means that these widgets are viewed and engaged with by a significant network of friends along with the original user.

Situation Analysis
This data from Gigya and comScore reflects a key trend that is reshaping the Internet: content is being consumed in locations other than the original source and instead within the places where users spend an increasing amount of time online, such as social networks, start pages and blogs.
The data also illustrates that the majority of widgets installed via Gigya’s sharing platform are placed by users onto social platforms like social network profile pages, where the widgets then reach an average of 24 of each user’s friends.
Gigya’s technology and services achieved enormous traction with both advertisers and publishers due in large part to this significant network effect. The company’s growth also reflects the desire of these two key customer groups to reach large and relevant audiences in a social context, using innovative technologies that together deliver user endorsement, word of mouth and a high level of engagement.
According to recent Forrester research, people online most trust their friends for consumer information. With 83 percent of people trusting a friend’s opinion of a product or service, widgets, and their ability to reach friend networks as user-endorsed content, represent an important marketing opportunity.

Of course that Clearspring acquisition of AddThis was the smart move since they are now well positioned to reclaim the #1 place in what could be a month from now. but even then. the news from gigya and their Gigya Socialize strategy shows that they will not let go without a fight.

This in turn should be great for Widgets in general and good for me that i get to cover it. what is not to like?

Gigya Raises $11 Million More In Funding, Unveils Strategy For Gigya Socialize

October 7th, 2008

gigya

A week ago, the news that Gigya had raised $11 million more in funding hit Techcrunch. this brings Gigya total funding to 23.5 in over two years. lots of things have happened with it in two years and it is one of the examples where you could said it has paid off what it was invested into it.

It got solid analytics, a good Widget Ad network and what is more important: Two good products.

tmp99

Gigya Widlfire: Their High Spread Sharing module that is used as the main attraction to their offerings of backing it up with a easy way to port, distribute, advertise, manage and optimize any widget you have developed if you bring it to them. This makes Gigya a competitor to many widget start ups (musestorm, widgetbox, springwidgets and clearspring). yet it don`t competes directly with no one of them because of the way they do things and because they are most able to actually partner up with other widget startups like Sproutbuilder for example.

tmp9A

Gigya Socialize: Their Social Graph enabled Widget Strategy. i called it MyBlogLog 2.0 and i still stand by it even up to now because it gives a blog a Social Network by leveraging info from visitors and other social network and web 2.0 services just like MyBlogLog. with a big difference. Gigya Socialize seems to be truly making that portable into a Widget or Widgetization of a Blog or Site. this a approach recently adopted even by white listing Social Network builder LiveWorld with their LiveBar Widget. Gigya Socialize could be the consumer version of that too if they want it. it also competes with Google Friend Connect. this hints at it being a forward thinking product since none of the last two mentioned Widgets and Widget services are yet out for the public either.

tmp9F

Gigya seems to have quite a lot of faith in Socialize given the statements Techcrunch collected:

Gigya currently monetizes only its Wildfire service, and it does so through the use of branded widgets that get offered to consumers after they add non-branded widgets to their profile pages and blogs. While President Rooly Eliezerov says the company has plans to monetize Socialize a few quarters from now (through sponsored news feed items and other advertising-related means), it is currently focused on distributing the technology as widely as possible for free. The company has been working with big brands and media companies such as Fox Searchlight, which has integrated Socialize into its official Choke website.

Eliezerov says that, eventually, he expects Socialize to become about ten times the value of the Wildfire widget network since many websites (small and large) will become connected to social networks over the next couple of years.

Ten times the value of Wildfire.. that is quite a bold statement. even if they only managed to get Socialize to be 3 times the value of Wildfire. it does shows what they consider to be their most possible future. it is actually surprising because of how well Wildfire looks to be doing as it is. but the truth is that the Widget Space is a quite competed space. so having a plan b is a must. Socialization looks to be the common trend lately in terms of Widget Startups. Clearspring is now interested in Social Bookmarking and Content Sharing. ShareThis wants to compete with MyBloglog and take cues from Social News sites. Widgetbox gets into Blog Networking and now Gigya is saying they want to compete with Google and MyBlogLog too. i think that is enough to call it a trend on what is expected to be the future of Widgets for 2009: Further Socialization and Social Graph Leveraging. just as Advertising, Marketing and Analytics was the Focus in Widget Startups for 2008 up to now.

I think this is good thinking as long as it truly evolves the way Widgets expose themselves and bring up more developed portable experiences.

There is only one thing i wonder about. there will be a Gigya Directory site to bring up all that info together?.  i would certainly like the idea of having a Wildfire Directory and check out what widgets are using a Wildfire H.S.S module and a site that will show me what blogs are using Gigya Socialize.

Gigya Socialize to add Myspace and Facebook Friend support

September 10th, 2008

gigya

I remember that a little over 3 months ago i wrote about Gigya Socialize and wonder how and if it could bring a Social Graph into a Widget .you could then connect to a Blog in order to generate instant Social Networking abilities to a blog or a site. looks like they are indeed going for it since they have announced they will add Myspace and Facebook Friend List Support to it.

Contact import

This is big news. this is what i was talking about when i first mentioned the words “social graphed” and how this will come to widgets. since then we have seen a few examples on how this will come into play with things like the Hi5 Pixverse Pixchat widget, Google Friend Connect or the Pocket Myspace iGoogle  Gadget  that uses the Myspace Data Availability API.  this is also something that google will bring internally to things like iGoogle, Blogger and Orkut in due time. but the trend is clear. Social Graph Extendibility will play a role with widgets. and widgets can be the way for social networks to reach into the web.  now we only need to see more examples of this. a OpenSocial, a facebook and a AOL example should not be far away. while it is already there. i think i would be good to wait some more months to see how it evolves and other offerings evolve before going for it.
