Digsby Web to IM blog Widget

August 5th, 2008

Digsby is a Cross Platform Multi IM client for power users. it got connection not only to all the main IM networks but also offer Mail Notifications for the Main E-mail clients and Social Networking Interaction with Twitter, MySpace and Facebook, that also includes Facebook Chat.

It is the right choice for user that are Power Users but that are rooted into IM and Social Networks. just as Pidgin is for nerds, Digsby is for geeks. and it will continue to be right choice as long as Trillian Astra remains in Development Hell. but that is other matter entirely.

They also offer you a widget so you can communicate with your Blog readers and friends and it is geared that way. the Disgby Web to IM Widget is a blatant copy of the MeeboMe Widget but in the end that is ok because it works just as good as the one from Meebo and in the very same fashion. so if you have seen the MeeboMe Widget,  this is exactly the same.

You count with a All in One Settings page for the Widget, so if you are using Digsby or where planning to use a Multi IM Desktop Client, then you will be glad to know that they also count with a Web To IM just like in Meebo. in terms of the IM Client. it is the one i use right now while i wait for Trillian Astra.so it is the best you can get in terms of Desktop Multi IM clients.

Windows Live Messenger IM Control

August 5th, 2008

There are already some Chat to IM widgets around and that get quite a lot of use. but pretty much all of them are from third parties. they are made as a communication gateway for a third party Multi IM client. that is of course good on itself and we will see more of them later but first i want to talk a little about Windows Live Messenger IM Control or Live IM Control for short.

This is a First party Widget, well Gadget since it is from Windows Live. that connect with Windows Live Messenger. The Widget is meant for you to use it in your blog or your website if your primary IM client is Live Messenger and there is close to 40% of a chance that may be the case.

And just like the Widgets from third parties its goal is pretty much the same. to let you connect with your readers, friends or clients depending where and how you may want to use it.

Using it is simple and you only need to follow these steps:

1.-Login to your Live Messenger web settings:

Go to this page and log in with the Live ID you use for Live Messenger

http://settings.messenger.live.com/Applications/WebSettings.aspx

2.-Change your Live Messenger web settings:

5.-Paste and Start using it

Place it in your blog, your social network profile or you website and start using it.

This whole process can be done in 3 minutes. so there you go.

I will place on in this post in order to demo it. i am not sure if i will have it here in the blog but it will be living here in this blog post.

Meebo Launches Widgetized Site Specific Instant Messaging Service

July 16th, 2008

Meebo don`t stop from surprising once again with a new product that will effectively help them grow but also fend off any competition they get from the other players in various niches of the Instant Messaging Business.

They now got Chat Rooms, a Blog Widget, Apps and finally a Website Instant Messenger called Community IM

Community IM is where they are now aiming to in order to provide chat to websites and at the same time to stay connected to the Meebo Network. this new offering looks suspiciously similar to Facebook Chat in a almost worrisome way but i guess that they don`t care too much to be cynic about it.

The chat will also work in pretty much the same way Facebook Chat works just porting a skin familiar to the site where this meebo powered solution gets to be. as seen in the photo in the case of PopSugar the skin for the chat module is pink and got a tag in the service as “sugarim”. further customization is more than likely to be added as it is tested into the now limited set of partners Meebo has chosen to test this. the business model is a Advertising deal with the site that will split revenue 50/50.

This so called Community IM as Nick O`Neill points out is also a blue print copy of Userplane IM service for websites up the business model.

I find it odd that they have chosen to copy facebook chat so closely without a logical reason, so it is more than likely that the status bar will serve as a way to serve the ads (Nick talks about a inline ads called SparkAds”) or maybe even the same kind of meebo app integration meebo got in its main site. another reason could be that it is just the form they wanted to have while they test the new service and it will not be there when it launches.

While this effort is a great one. Userplane continues to be more powerful from the business side because they have a really really strong advertising base and a big company backing them up (AOL, that also owns ICQ and AIM for that matter)
