Metaplace Widget: Blog Embeddable Virtual Word

July 12th, 2009

Metaplace is a MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) which closest references would be Runescape, Second Life and The Sims. it would say it is like a mixture of those based on the dynamics of it. i am not even comfortable saying it is a MMORPG but for the sake of reference just go with my description above.

Having said that i find it suitable for kids, tweens and maybe some a small slice of teenagers would find it attractive. but you never know. proof of that can be seen in The Sims that was targeted for those sectors originally but expanded well beyond them to the surprise of its publisher.

Talking directly about the widget, things change because it becomes a nice 3d chat widget when used from that perspective. mostly a novelty but a good option to check out.

Vizio To Release Connected HDTV With Yahoo TV Widgets And On Demand Services

July 3rd, 2009

No doubt about it. Yahoo TV Widgets will be THE novelty in this fall HDTV offerings. The latest to join the party is Vizio that will offer a step up over the other HDTV’s with Yahoo TV Widgets as it will also offer On Demand Services like Pandora, Raphsody, Vudu, Netflix and Blockbuster OnDemand.

Yahoo TV Widgets being based off The Yahoo Widget Engine means you being able to get  Flickr, Twitter, Pandora, Last.FM, Facebook, MySpace, etc. All in Widget form.

The Other interesting bit is that it comes with a Remote Control/ Slide QWERTY Keyboard as the input/pointing device to enjoy the Vizio HDTV.

Quite a incredible offering  since it is like it having a service like Microsoft Mediaroom built into the TV by default without the need of a Top Box or it being a Media Center Extender. the only question now is if it will truly deliver. My concern is that it needs to be thoroughly tested in order for it to deliver a smooth and quick experience. The last thing you want is having a HDTV with slow loading Widgets ruining the experience.

Amberjack Blog Tour Overlay Widget

June 29th, 2009

tmp36

Amberjack is a useful idea to replace or enhance your About page in your blog. It is meant as a way to demo important parts or important posts in your blog. while giving out a short description on why the part/post in question is important/representative of your blog.

tmp38

A simple, yet versatile idea to enhance the user experience in your blog visitors.the tour is not forced and it is opt-in, so no user will be annoyed in the process. it is meant for those curious enough about your blog to call up the widget.

tmp37

The Widget is skinnable and comes with 6 default skins to try out. you can make your own if you know CSS in order to get the look to your liking.

tmp3B

But i think the best feature is that you can even quickly add a embedded video, form or audio to your widget making it even more useful and personal.

tmp3C

To get the Amberjack widget for your blog or website you use a simple wizard form in the Amberjack site. no need of registration, no nothing. it is there right away for use it and get your widget code to go.

Amberjack is free and open source so you can use it and modify it to your liking without any worry. i personally like the widget idea and think anyone with a blog should try it out.

Wikinvest Redesigns Website to become Financial Widget Startpage

June 28th, 2009

tmpd3[1]

Wikinvest is a Financial Widget Startup that focuses in stock charts and financial data charts widgets that are embeddable and shared. now that is not enough to sustain growth so they issued a redesign to their website in order to be more like the financial pages from MSN, Yahoo and Google.

Many call that a hard sell. but it is not only worth a shot but actually doable as the info they provide is at the level and the widgets are really cool and you can take them to go. so if you check your stocks in the morning and want to make a blog on how bad they are sucking or gloat on them. you can add them to your posts not just as petty graphics. but fully functional stock charts.
