Widgets on the iPhone lock screen?

September 28th, 2009

iPhone Dev Team members wizdaz and MediaPhone have recently announced a brand new application for the iPhone and iPod touch, called SmartScreen. According to the post, this app will allow users the ability to have multiple widgets displayed on the lock screen.

Here’s the catch

The application will work on all models of iPhone and iPod touch that run OS 3.x, unfortunately due to the nature of the product it will not be available for purchase in the Apple AppStore but will be sold to customers of jailbroken phones via alternate means

Adobe: “There will be Flash in the iPhone if Apple Allows it”

October 1st, 2008

image

No, it is not a exact quote from Adobe. that is just what they basically said recently. Adobe had already managed to get Flash running in a JailBroken iPhone months ago. Flash has always been a thorn for the iPhone given it is Resource Intensive and because it is something that Apple cannot get over the fact they would not be able to control it. Apple shunned Java for the same reasons. but unlike Java. Flash is not dying away slowly. it is a integral part of a full web experience. something Apple has advertised and have got criticized for because that phrase is of course a complete lie just as the iPhone interface demo Commercial that got banned in the U.K for the same reasons. there is no full web experience without Flash. there is no chance for having a full RIA web experience without it either. this don`t comes only to flash but also Silverlight as it ramps up as the other option to counter Adobe.

image

Apple reticent attitude toward flash and silverlight is because they are proposing their own ideas and standards of what multimedia and RIA web could be. Adobe just assured that Windows Mobile support will get as best as possible. there is no doubt that the same will happen with Symbian and Android. so has Microsoft with silverlight assuring it will work with Symbian besides Windows Mobile. will they follow to android?. yes. because they don`t have to ask for permission and because they will be forced to do so if Adobe puts flash into Android.

So can Apple allow to say no to Flash for the iPhone?. i don`t think so . not if they want to live up to the promise of a full web experience that all of its competitors will have. they must know it. but they also know that if they cave in for Flash. how will the be able to say no to Silverlight  (that is less resource intensive than flash no less) and JavaFX?.

Exactly.

The iPhone getting flash support is important for a full web experience and to force apple to accept other option beyond flash too. so RIA web can grow faster too.  if this happens. it will assure every Mobile OS makes sure there is support for these plugins.

That will also mean that you would not need to sacrifice off any of your widgets while using a mobile.

Almost two months ago i posted about Widgets Lab being Mobile Ready thanks to Mofuse. the mofuse service works simply by loading WidgetsLab.com in a Mobile Phone. this is something that everyone can use. but if you still need a little more incentive maybe a chicklet would be enough to peek your curiosity for the service.

This chicklet just like the one from feedburner will show your average number of visitor you had since you started using mofuse up to now. so it is not a daily mobile site counter but a regular visitor counter. the number of visitor that are engaged with your blog in a daily basis.

And if you thought there were not enough badges. they also got some more now:
