Access Linux Platform 3.0 Demo

March 2nd, 2009

There is not much about Access Linux Platform 3.0 and its netfront widget engine but a demo i almost missed from WMC in Barcelona shows the OS running in a device and it shows the netfront widget engine that as i said looks a lot like those from TouchWIZ UI by Samsung and that now has spread everywhere as it has been copied around. but that is where the error ends since while Access 3.0 has yet to ship in a device, the netfront widget engine has been around in concept in private mode during a loooong time so i cannot even claim which one came first with 100% certainty but given that TouchWIZ 3.0 shipped first and continues to evolve….that becomes irrelevant since TouchWIZ is already in the mainstream.

But Access 3.0 at least shows what could have been if it had shipped first and given the video it manages to stay up to the challenge and that is a inspiring fact and it is interesting as widgetization continues to sweep through the mobile OS industry.

Access ALP officially out

November 4th, 2008

Weird.. i thought it was out already. i guess there is a difference between announced for release and release announcement. confusing. but whatever. it is out now.

I talked about it before. so no need for me to do a retake. i sustain that it think it is a worthy as the android platform. but it lacks the hype and the pull of android. so it may get to be big only in Asia and specifically in Japan. that is unless it gains a hold of Russia too.

Confirmed: Emblaze Edelweiss Will Run Access Linux Platform + Mobile Netfront Widget Engine

October 19th, 2008

Looks like my eyes are still not failing me and i was right. the Emblaze Edelweiss will indeed be the first Full Screen Multi Touch High End Smartphone to be running Access Linux Platform unless Emblaze own Edelweiss Spec Sheet on Emblaze site is wrong…

That means the widgets running in the Phone are Netfront Mobile Widgets. nice. the Access Linux Platform OS and the Netfront Widgets are already a nice surprise but just looking at the rest of the specs in the phone makes it a serious contender for the Top Mobile Phones for 2008-2009. There is really nothing with such high specs and i seriously think that having the ALP OS + Netfront makes it the most interesting choice for the fall. too bad it is a Russia only phone. so you have close to zero chances of seeing this in the wild unless you import it in a leap of faith. but in the meantime we will await the first Hands On Video with the phone in order to check it out.

Emblaze Edelweiss could be running Access Linux Platform + Mobile Netfront Widget Engine

October 8th, 2008

This 480 x 854 3.5 inches Multi Touch (supposed) Mobile Phone. yes, the pretty beast in the picture above  is called Edelweiss as the pretty but strong Flower Mountain and comes from Emblaze Mobile. a Israeli Mobile Company. it is being developed for the Russian market as the iPhone Killer for that very market only. considering the resolution alone is superior to the already superior resolution of the  Touch HD. that should make it worthy of consideration. but that is not the  greatest thing about this phone. from the looks and the known up to now facts.the Emblaze Edelweiss may be running with the  Access Linux Platform. this is a big deal because of what i noted about ALP when i had a look at it close to two months ago:

This Mobile OS looks to be the friendliest yet to develop for those in Linux, it counts with full Ubuntu support tools, full Java ME support and that can run native linux apps, gatner apps, palm os apps, and of course Java apps.

That pretty much means you could run and adapt lots of things into the phone. hell, it may also be possible it could run Mono 2.0 and Moonlight if you adapt that to it.

But as it is easily seen in the screenshot. it is running Widgets in its desktop. those widgets look to be Netfront Mobile Widgets adapted to the phone:

This would make its Mobile Widget offering no less stronger than the one now being pushed by Samsung with TouchWIZ or LG with its Flash UI. certainly a really  incredible phone if it holds true. too bad it is Russia only. that means you will only get to have it if you import it over.
