July 12th, 2009

Because Chumby is not the only company chasing to give you Widgets in a convenient factor. Sungale is up to that task and since Chumby has not materialized getting into TV’s or Digital Photo Frames yet, then it is a good opportunity to take for other companies while they still can to arrive early enough to the game. That is where Sungale and ID800WT Digital Photo Frame gets in.

So it got lot of stuff and seems fairly capable. the only thing i don’t like is the price. in my opinion these kind of things should never go over the 100 dollars line and these will set you back 165 bucks. that is 35 bucks less than the chumb. But the chumby got a better widget platform and it is even more capable than this one  since it can even run jajah or  quake!. but if you cannot wait for the Chumby to get really portable, cheaper or for it to become a  actual frame. This is the best option i have seen so far.

You can read a hands on of the Sungale ID800WT with unfinished firmware at Zatz Not Funny so you can form a better opinion of it, if interested.

Flickr Flash Widget Amazes

February 18th, 2009

roytanck.com
Roy has created a very appealing Flash based Flickr widget that displays your photo feed in a globe style format.

Move your pointer around the page close to the widget and the floating photo globe moves with you. Each thumbnail opens its corresponding Flickr page in a new tab.

Roy Tanck‘s Flick Widget requires Flash Player 9 or better.

(I utilized Roy’s Flickr feed here)

An excellent Flash widget that should easily integrate in any blog.

Roy also has a very cool WordPress Tag Cloud widget that displays your blogs tags in a similar structure. It was released in March 2008 and has generated alot of positive feedback.

Silverlight PhotoSlider

February 2nd, 2009

image

Silverlight PhotoSlider is a different kind of slideshow. it is meant to be used to high light articles and these photo sliders can be seen done in Ajax and Flash and usually used in sites like Engadget or other big blogs. that don`t means you cannot have your own Photo Slider and have it in Silverlight no less.

The widget sustain a timed transition loop, allow for user slide input, show articles descriptions and the slides work as active links.

This comes from Italian Silverlight developer already known for Silverlight PhotoGallery and Silverlight MinoPlayer. this should give confidence that the widget is solid.

As usual given this is not a widget service but a installable one. you just need to host it in your website or blog by following some very simple instructions. nothing anyone with a website or hosted blog cannot do without a hitch.
