WebsiteMusicPlayer — Secure Transaction widget for Artists

December 27th, 2009

WebsiteMusicPlayer is an embeddable Flash music player widget that allows artists to securely sell their music. There are feature like encrypted download links that can be set to allowone download or a limited number of downloads. Also available are metrics that allow the artist to easily see how many items they have sold.
Transactions are done through PayPal in order to offer an easily recognizable standard that most users will feel comfortable with.

WebsiteMusicPlayer is not a free service. They make their money via monthly or yearly subscriptions. There is no “per purchase” fee.

How does it work?

At any time while listening to your music, the listener can click each checkbox each one of your songs to select each song that they want to buy.

Next they click the ‘Click Here To Order’ (or your own custom text) button that is prominently displayed on the bottom of your player and an order summary page will open in a new window.

On this new page they click the ‘Proceed To Checkout’ button and will be brought to a payment screen where they can either pay you by credit card or use their existing Paypal® funds. This money is instantly deposited into your Paypal® account.

After successful payment, the customer is forwarded to a download page that contains only the songs that they’ve paid for. These protected download links are also emailed to the customer.

The customer is only allowed to download each song a set number of times (determined by you in your settings), after which the download links expire and delete themselves to prevent them from being shared.

Widget customization options:

A lot of thought went into making the color of your player as easy as possible to customize. It’s very simple to make it so the player color matches any website you want it to appear on.

In your account there’s an area where you can create, save, edit and delete custom player color schemes so that multiple color schemes are available to fit each website you embed the player in.

Each time you add the player to a different website it can have a unique color scheme.

You can set the color for the main parts of the player to any color you want. Easily select the color from a color picker interface or enter the html color value if you know it.

You can also edit the order button text at the bottom of the player in addition to the optional music licensing button that is provided by .

Newsgator Related Content Widgets

December 15th, 2008

2008 was quite a year for newsgator in terms of Widgets. they went full force on them and have seriously improved from being a simple feed widget creation tool a year ago. to real contender in widget distribution, feed widget development and widget experimentation.

Newsgator new bet is Related Content Widgets as a way to bet on themselves and what have they archived lately and to mine on their feed and data index.

In addition to allowing you to syndicate your content, NewsGator Technologies also offers a number of comprehensive of options and platforms to enhance the value of this content. Enhancement options – using data pulled from over 3 million unique, indexed feeds – include data services, a related content engine, and tailored white list services.

For instance, use our technology to give your audience a broader perspective around articles. NewsGator’s "Related Content" services deliver relevant headlines on your article pages giving your audience a reason to explore. You choose the sources; we’ll search for contextually relevant content. So whether you’re serving up additional headlines of your own content or from selected partners, NewsGator’s Related Content service will encourage your audience to keep clicking!

These add-on tools allow you to further personalize your content selection and network in a targeted and effective manner. This greatly enhances your ability to serve up additional headlines of your own content or from selected partners, adding significant value.

A related stories widget that offers readers headlines for stories they may be interested in.  It works quite simply: when they click on a headline, a fly-out window appears with the opening paragraphs of each story; another click reveals the full article, and ads can be embedded at every turn.

A related topics page which automatically presents contextually related topics to readers as key words.  Readers click on the key word of interest and are redirected to a page of stories relevant to the key word.

“Everyday we add 8.5 million new articles to our database, indexing and aggregating 3.6 million different feeds and archiving 4 years of content!  This huge database of content — in fact, the industry’s largest such repository of free content — a result of our pioneering RSS reading/delivery services, is offered to publishers who wish to supplement their own content with related stories from 3rd parties. We even track more than 44 million "relevance events" in this activity, ensuring related content is truly relevant!  It’s quite simple: the more content to draw from, and the better indexed that is, the better the related content supplied by our widget offerings.

What’s more, publishers have control over their widgets’ look and feel, search action, and content sources through our existing Editor’s Desk platform; this makes it quick and effortless to build, manage, and track these new related content widgets. And we also offer flexibility in pricing for our related content services: hosted (transaction based) and free (ad supported with revenue-sharing).”

So. this new widget initiative by Newsgator is sure intriguing and responds directly to what has been happening lately with the craze of Social Content Sharing and Feed Widget Networks. what i find more interesting is that it work for both the small publisher side and the premium big publisher side in a multi threaded strategy. that is refreshing in times of economic recession. because how many times we have seen great plans and offerings without solid business plans that manage to offer value beyond traffic and exposure that fades away?. so of course the part of having a Additional Advertising Revenue stream will be the one that resonates the most. and in the end will be the one where the success for both newsgator and whoever gets to use it relies.

To that i suggest Newsgator that a proper public if possible white paper on how is this going to work should be in order. and it is something i will be looking for to share in here.

If this intrigues you and you desire to know more about it or set it up right away. Newsgator got two must read  Blog posts on that:

Lijit Releases Its Publisher Ad Network

October 9th, 2008

Lijit, the Blog Search Widget stated that they would launch a Ad Network back when they got $7M more of funding and they have now finally released it. it is a Publisher Ad Network and those using Lijit Widget may apply for it to earn some extra cash.

I like Lijit as an idea. but i do not seen it mature enough as it should be by now. it is a little slow and i had the opportunity to try it out using Opera 9.5, IE8 and Chrome in both XP and Vista. it feels even slower on those browsers. the best performance was obtained in Firefox 3 and IE7 in that order.

But that is not my biggest complain with it. while i like the Lightbox mode they use. i wish it could be  like the one used by Custom Live Search or that it could be a Asynchronous Content loader like the one used by Google Ajax Search. At least i would like the option for it to load like that.

On the Ad Network. it is a good idea. they got enough  users to make it work and anything that can benefit the product and the product users is a good thing that deserves to succeed.

Right now it will serve ads coming from Lijit ad network but it will allow the choice for publishers to choose advertisers later on.

RateItAlL raises $800k.

June 24th, 2008

RateItAll claims to be the site for consumer reviews about anything. they have a very cool widget. one of the best if not the best Rating Widget there is. not so much because it is the most evolved Widget  or the prettiest widget around (as you can se,it is not). but because they got the best model around the widget service. you get half of whatever your widget and your reviews in the site get.

While RateItAll got a lean mean quality operation. it remained small until they got a big boost thanks to their MySpace App and now are on a faster growth pace.but it is worth of note that unlike other start ups they always were profitable.

I hope this round of funding means a Widget Revamp and more Widgets to come from them and not just a tuning of the company. in the meantime congrats to them. i report a lot on Widget Money lately but now  it is not common to report it from the smaller operations.

Lawrence Coburn, CEO of RateItAll is also the guy behind the SexyWidget Blog. that besides Widgets Lab is one of the few Widgets Blogs worth reading. just don`t expect him to be as charismatic as me. that is of course… impossible. 😉
