Twingly is a relatively new Blog Search engine that wants to compete with Technorati and Google Blog Search. i see no problems in that as many do. Technorati rankings and “wisdom†is incredibly flawed and Google Blog Search is somewhat a generic redundancy in Google because most people don`t even know of it or simply don`t use it much. that gives Twingly a very good shot. more because they are not competing against technorati in the same country. they are a European startup that can enjoy of the support of his segment of the world as basis to grow and then expand over to the American continent where technorati dominates.
Twingly started testing their service some months back. i noticed it a month ago and started pinging widgetslab at it just one week ago. that has been enough for the blog to be indexed, if not fully. now it will be indexed fully as Twingly is now live. as part of their new indexing and algorithm refining goals they have launched some blog widgets for that end and to promote the brand.
You have the option to get widgets for 3 domain specific queries:
-
1.-Recent Posts
-
2.-Most Linked Posts
-
3.-Recent Linked Posts
I truly find incredible now that i think of it. how poor Technorati Widget support and interest is compared to the interest a pretty fresh startup is showing in this area.

The question is why would you want these widgets and not some of technorati. the answer is simple:
There are no widgets like these coming officially from technorati. technorati also has demonstrated a very erratic behavior the last years and i really don`t know what to think of them anymore. so a new option for blog search and more importantly a social enabled blog search is a good thing.
Finally it depends on what blog platform you are but these widget can serve as modules for your blog in case you don`t have the features they offer in your blog so you are able to use these as a good and easy replacement or choice if you also decide you like these better than your default ones.
The only problems i see with these widgets is that they don`t have any kind of High Spread. they only come in one single flavor as Script Widgets and that is a big limitation and that the customization options for the widgets are to stiff. you should be able to integrate them as you see fit. you can do that by taking the feeds from the query a reconverting the feed into a widget yourself but that option should be there since we are not in 2006 but 2008.
I still like Twingly as a choice to have against Technorati. lets hope this can lead to some improving in this niche.
