Tweetcloud widget is cool…but broken

January 14th, 2010

Happened upon tweetcloud after searching twitter for widgets.

tweetcloud.com offers exactly what you would think. The top trending Twitter topics in a standard Tag Cloud format. When you click on a topic, the most recent Tweets are loaded below the “tweetcloud”.

tweetcloud as you can see below, tweetcloud delivers everything…even some unsavory items.

tweetcloud widget

The tweetcloud widget was constructed utilizing the Clearspring widget platform. The widget displays a mini tweetcloud and when you click on one of the trending topics in the cloud, you are given a list (right in the widget) of the latest tweets on that topic.

Unfortunately, when you click the “back to cloud” button at the top of the widget…nothing happens. You don’t get to go “back to cloud”. You are stuck, unless you refresh the page.

I don’t know the solution because I don’t program JavaScript. But I’m sure its probably pretty simple.

You can see the widget at tweetcloud.com

You can also find the widget at the super secret Clearspring hidden tweetcloud widget page.

LiveIntent –Twitter follow suggest

December 28th, 2009

LiveIntent (beta–Invite only) offers a widget that allows you to add Twitter users with a suggestion to follow them. Lets say you have 5 editors on your blog. You can add them to the LiveIntent widget as suggestions to follow on Twitter. You could add anyone that you think is worthwhile to follow.

The widget:
At this point, the widget appears as a small “Share This” chic-let style embed that, when you mouseover it, a box appears that displays your suggested Twitter users. The LiveIntent widget is currently using JavaScript.

LiveIntent is focused on “Making social media connections that matter”.
The actual scope of LiveIntent is rather fuzzy. There is a LiveIntent blog post that indicates the direction of the company.

One of the things that we discuss a lot here at LiveIntent is, appropriately, intent. Consumer intent. Advertiser intent. Publisher intent. Even our intent! The real-time web is all about intentions and our goal is to digest and learn from these intentions. Our theory is that the more alignment of intent that we can create, the higher the utility that we provide.
…Technological innovation has long been fueled by advertising dollars and if social media is going to continue it’s explosive growth, it too will require a sustainable advertising model. At LiveIntent, we hope that we can create this model by providing meaningful, targeted, intent-aligned connections on social media.

I’m still not quite sure how to manage all the information that comes down the Twitter pipe…WOW!
HootSuite.com is making that task much, much easier!

You have to watch the video to get a good understanding of how HootSuite works and what it can do for you.

The Column Embed:
The feature we are focused on is the ability to embed into your blog, any “column” that you have created using HootSuite. Simplicity at its finest! All you need to do is create a column with your favorite keyword (up to three) or search criteria and then click on the “embed” button. This brings up the embed settings window which allows you to choose a title, dimensions, primary & background colors, refresh frequency and profanity filter. Once you have made your choices, you are then given the embed code to place in your site. (embed code is Flash)hootsuite_embed_settings

HootSuite is a relatively new service (1 year old approx.) and is winning many awards:

HootSuite has won Mashable’s 2009 Open Web Award for Best Twitter App
    Shorty
    Canadian New Media Awards
Groundswell Awards (selected as a finalist)

Here is what the embedded column looks like in WidgetsLab green.
