YuMe changes CEO, former CEO becomes president

August 12th, 2008

YuMe, the hottest independent Online Video advertising network whose business is providing with some of the best Overlay Advertising for Online Video, be it in site page or in the Video embeddables just changed CEO. the new CEO is Michael Mathieu. some who comes from working in interactive media and advertising. that seems like a perfect fit for the company more now that they need to adjust to their own success now they are providing the ads for Ustream and will be providing the ads for the excess and unsold inventory of content from Microsoft. huge deals for a previously already profitable company that must be under fire in terms of growth and that needs to adjust accordingly.

The former CEO and Co-founder Jayant Kadambi will take the president position and it is more than likely the one who will be overseeing the development and inner workings of the company while the new CEO gives the face from now on. the company have raised $16 million in funding, but i doubt they will raise again now they got their hands full. YuME is a interesting company for me to follow because they are one of the companies shaping the way online video advertising evolves. something that gets reflected in Widget Advertising and the advertising in online video embeddables of course.

Ustream: now with overlay ad banner

June 25th, 2008

Not content to be left out of the possible money to be made in Online Video Advertising. Ustream. the biggest video Lifecasting provider will now “try” (more like adopt from the top) Overlay advertisements with some of the most notorious or  popular users in the service. pretty much the same that YouTube has been doing and what other are going to do in this space.

image

And calling them proper overlay ads would be wrong. they are going mix with the “live comment track” in the player and if you hover the advertisement in the video you will get another front overlay with offering. i have seen the ads already and while the execution is a no brainer. they got several problems to me:

  • 1.-They are ugly.
  • 2.-They are not truly translucent
  • 3.-They have not been well thought out.

These are not even on the level of youtube overlay banners. but the good news is that they got a good company behind the ads. YuMe. the same that will be providing help to Microsoft. so they should do fine. at the pace online video advertising is pushing i would say we should expect overlay ads in some capacity or execution on pretty much all mayor online video providers by the end of the year.

SplashCast Hotspot : Hyperlink Video Ads

June 25th, 2008

The last notable news with Splashcast was that they were entering MySpace App Platform and that they had raised money. after almost 3 months of being relatively mute. Splashcast is doing a overall update of the service but also offering something new. something that pretty sure was developed thanks to the money raised and maybe the why they got money. HyperLink Ads with supplementary overlay info indicators, etc.

image

Totally logical step considering the kind of clients splashcast gears to  and a sign of the times in terms of video advertising evolution. everything is about overlays. but unlike others in the online video (and media) space, Splashcast hotspot is a in house solution. that gives it a better rate of success thanks to the inventory they have and the clients they got.

YuMe grabs Microsoft deal for Overlay Video Advertising

June 16th, 2008

While i have never heard about YuMe. they must be really good because Microsoft choose them for their tech and to manage all the excess and unsold inventory for them. giving a quick look at them. they do look like the way to go in Video Overlays. they offer 11 overlay advertising solutions for Video advertising and according to they PR company  quote they claim:

“YuMe is the first dedicated video advertising network and a management system built exclusively for the new world of Web video. With 400+ websites, more than 150 million video streams, and 46.9 million unique visitors, the YuMe network provides both audience scale and quality reach for advertisers”

They also claim to reach 65% of the USA online market.

So, in other words: they are solid. and they should be Microsoft rarely does deals like these unless they lack the time to do it themselves or don`t want to acquire the technology instead. something that could still happen. but i guess this is the way to try it out first. logical considering that YouTube is now testing the ground (getting youtube users to get used to overlays) to unleash their Video Overlay Advertising solutions and advertising strategy any given time now.

Now, this is a good reason to experiment in overlays. youtube advertising is going to take into new realms because while they have been testing overlays and advertising for brands and premium channels. how you sell ads on other uploaders material? . letting you sell your own ads. that is probably going to be the video version of adsense. a good article on all this and the reasoning behind it at the link.
