Polldaddy: Better and Pro

November 20th, 2007

Polldaddy was the first embed and go poll service widget i really liked because of the way it worked and the performance it showed from the start. then there was a bad patch in the service and it really diddn´t worked that well anymore. but the service is now back and even faster than before with a so far perfect uptime with new options for the service.

Surveys

You can create Survey with polldaddy that will display in a lightbox and close once the visitors has completed it. something i like because i am against transitions that take your visitors out of your blog so i think it is the right execution for a survey service with the even better commodity of having it display thanks to a widget button.

Better management, performance and uptime

Not a feature per se but really glad to see they got their act together and done something about it at least

Pro Accounts

They now offer two pro account level for heavy users and larger websites and companies so you can have vote analysis, no link backs to polldaddy,, better metrics,  better customer support, bigger response per month ratio for surveys (from 1000 to 10,000 responses) and given it is paid it also put a promise the service will work.

Some criticism…

Ok, so the service is better, faster and stronger (so they say and so it seems). how come that optional branding (in the case of pro accounts) and better customization beyond custom CSS like new styles and configurations are not in the plate yet?

I like the look of polldaddy polls and all but in this time of great widget developments i cannot believe that polldaddy don´t got that covered.

However

I know i am nitpicking here, but given it is a great service, i expect great things from it but i have seen the other solutions in that space and even if some are integrated and others are more flashy that  Polldaddy. they are not as fast and well managed so i give them kudos and welcome them back to my list of favorite widget services.

Tapatap contest widgets

November 11th, 2007

Create a contest and it comes with a widget

More accurately it comes with a Flash embed so you can promote it easily on your Myspace profile. It also works on Friendster, Blogger, hi5 etc…

Basically you can create a ‘Hot or Not’ photo contests on the Tapatap.com website.

People are joining Tapatap to create contests amongst friends (e.g. Who’s the hottest girl in our dorm?), rate crazy pictures from last night’s party, and compete against the community to be the best Tapper!

It appears as though you can win prizes by participating in these contests. Some contests are created with $$ prizes put up by the contest creators. Tapatap also rewards people that participate on their contests. By voting, creating contests and adding photos into contests with prizes, you are eligible to win prizes. Up for grabs are prizes such as Amazon.com gift certificates as well as cash prizes from $25 up to $250 per month.

Alenty.com MyBlogLog style widget with ratings

October 29th, 2007

Alenty offers community with a ‘Hot or Not’ flare

Alenty.com a French Web2.0 company, has developed code that determines influence that members have in a community. Then it creates a widget similar to the MyBlogLog visitors widget and displays community members in descending order based on their influence in the community.

alenty-widget.jpg

This is almost reminiscent of the top commentators widget found on certain Word Press blogs. But with a distinctly different flare. The ‘Hot Scale’ reminds visitors and community members of a particular users influence in the community. Bringing these ‘members’ to the forefront encourages more involvement for the top people and gives lower standing members incentive to participate more.

Widget
At this point I can only assume that the widget is JavaScript based. The sign up process is simple until you get to the ‘add a site’ section. This is where it failed me. Maybe I am not filling out the proper fields or I could be using the wrong browser. The button that allows me to finalize the adding of WidgetsLab to the Alenty widget is grayed out.
So we are denied!
