Ron Paul widgets and badges

September 5th, 2007

Not just badges. Ron Paul widgets do more!

There is no doubt about the online popularity of Texas Congressman Ron Paul. Ever since people started hearing his message and decided that he was legitimate, they started telling their friends. This is an exciting time in this country and on the Internet.
Of course, what campaign would be complete now days without some online badges.

Ron Paul’s supporters have gone all out. They have created some pretty unique widgets that do more than just sit there. Now some of the badges I’ll write about might be just that…badges, but some of these widgets will display fellow supporters of Ron Paul or maybe a top Ron Paul video. Either way, supporting your candidate on your web site or blog is getting to be very popular.

One of the widgets
that I wanted to share is ‘The Ron Paul for President’ Ning Network badge. (why it’s called a badge, I don’t know)
This widget dynamically updates with the networks most popular members. It also serves as a link to the main page of the RonPaul.Ning.com page where you can either join or grab this Myspace friendly widget.
This site also features three other widgets that can be placed on your blog, Hi5 or Myspace page.

Here’s a site that has 12 different badges in multiple sizes that will embed in any blog, social profile or website. Divshare/ ron_paul
Each badge gives a bit of information about Ron Paul’s ideals and the Ron Paul2008.com web address. I was somewhat disappointed that each one didn’t link to the official site. With a bit of code editing you could easily make it link there. Just look tow3schools in the HTML section for the proper code to make these badges into links.

The ‘Buddymapping’ widget
for “Supporters of Ron Paul” displays the geographical location of visitors who have added themselves to the map. You can see the widespread popularity of Ron Paul, based on the amount of markers on the map. The Buddymapping widget comes in many forms. There’s a Myspace code, Facebook App and even a Dashboard Mac widget that you can download. You can even view this map using the Google Earth program. Very versatile! Not much info on this banner. It delivers a random Ron Paul for President image upon page load or refresh. There is no information as to how many different images there are. I saw in the comments where this banner is located that most people would like to see a standard size for the banned. Right now the images are all different sizes. You can get the code for the banner at ronpaulpresshub.com

Even Slide.com widgets
are being utilized to share the popularity of the Ron Paul message.
There are two Flash embed widgets that will work anywhere including Myspace and Hi5. Each widget displays images of people that support the Ron Paul drive for the White House.
One widget is geared towards the sidebar and is about 200 px wide. The other widget is designed for the ‘About me’ area or a post area. It is about 400 px wide. This second widget I like better just because the images seem to be a lot clearer. You can get both widgets at RonPaulRally.org/widget

Newsvine delivers individual political polls for your site. The widgets are Flash based so they work on most blog platforms as well as Myspace.
With this widget you get to declare who you support and then get a feel for who your visitors support. Here is a link to a site that has an active working widget for you to try out. Give Me Liberty

Get Hammered Blog voting widget

August 14th, 2007

HammerWhat.com has a widget that allows your blog to “Get Hammered”

Getting “hammered” is basically getting a click vote for your blog. I don’t know if you can vote yourself up or have your friends give you multiple clicks. But does it really matter? If your friends are willing to do such a thing…then maybe you deserve it.

This is a Flash widget or as my co-author calls them “Everywhere Widgets”.

I like it just because of the “everywhere” aspect. There are no real custom options for this widget. However you can choose to either register clicks on the widget or a ranking of your blog or page. (what this is based on,,,I don’t know)

I happened to find this widget out in the wild…at weseepeople.blogspot.com

New Digg widget for your blog

July 24th, 2007

digg

Well, it was about time, just today i saw that digg has finally launched a blog widget, and because i had to head home, Pete cashmore got the story first, yes a Official Digg Blog widget, and it is in specific a blog/website widget because it is a Javascript widget, so most social networks will not be sporting it, this to me seems like a well planned decision, streaming digg content in blog sidebars means a bigger spread of what digg is and staying more in context of what digg does, because believe it or not, not everyone uses Digg, and given how they were looking to get bigger usage numbers and there are more and more discussions about when the next digg is going to appear, that the better way to defend the fort and hope to make it bigger was with brand spread, and with this kind of widget, for something like digg, it cannot get any better than that.

thankfully the widgets is great, size and color customizable, several default looks and a perfectly working widget, with a interesting extra, you can customize a lot what the widget will show, so it can even only show stories from a domain in specific, so if your blog got some dugg stories, you can now sport them in your blog in timely fashion.
