Widgets Lab Is OK

February 24th, 2009

I have received some concerned enquires asking about Widgets Lab. i wanted to take a minute to answer them.

While me and Derek love Widgets Lab and it’s readers. unfortunately is not our day job and we both got quite swamped with work. in my case i got some offers of hired work among other things. this of course affected my performance. i apologize and to those dozen that sent in submissions. i did got them and they will show up here in Widgets Labs as soon as possible.

But even with our brief absence and spare input. the blog has managed to continue to grow albeit a little slower. so we thank you for it.. some of you even caught my testing of the new template and this change will happen soon in order to finally upgrade the blog  to a new look.

So the blog now will resume to a steady schedule if all goes well as well with the new blog changes.

That is all.  Thank You

The Widget Interview To Resume Shortly Enough

October 7th, 2008

Given the Dozens of questions i have received via E-mail in the last weeks about what was of The Widget Interview. i feel obliged to clear out that the segment is not dead. it was just in a coma. i do have read and i do read every single  request i get. to most i reply but if your Startup is not a Widget Startup. as much as i would like to please you and make interviews to all that requests one. it would make no sense for it to be called “The Widget Interview” if i did so.

But let me give some additional pointers:

1.-I am interested in Widget Startups only

Please. stop requesting me to interview your non widget related start up that don`t even offers a widget to begin with. for it to appear in Widgets Lab!!!.

2.-The Widget Interview is 10 question long most of the time. one less or one more.

That means i don`t do 3 question interviews. that is because it is fishy and dumb those who dare to call such things interviews.

3.-I am interested in the CEO`s in the case of this series.

Nothing to add here.

4.-I cannot interview you if you are not on the market yet

This is the same reason why i don`t post about the lots and lots of private beta widgets or alpha state widgets i stumble with. if people cannot access it yet. and the Widget Startup has not launched anything. then you are pretty much asking to pitch me. it will not be much of a interview.

While it is tempting to do a series on that. i don`t plan on it yet because it would be too time consuming for me to do right now.

5.-I don`t do paid or sponsored interviews

I have nothing against making money. but that is not the right way to do it. much less if your widgets or widget startup are/is……not good.

There. i hope the basic guidelines are clearer now.

The plan is to start with TWI #2 next Monday or the Monday after next and then have one interview EVERY WEEK in a non stop fashion until i run out of Widget Startups. lets see how it goes this time around.

Widgets Lab Turns 2 Years Old!!!

October 1st, 2008

tmpA0

That’s right. 2 whole years ago Derek posted the first entry in WidgetsLab.com and it reviewed the Photobucket Widget at October first of 2006.

(that funny enough happens to be one day before my own birthday)

tmpA1

Fast forward 2 years to now and WidgetsLab.com got a archive of  1225 Blog posts. it counts with 1250 feed subscribers, half a thousand e-mail subscribers, Thousand of readers a day. had a very modest first month that i think it was not even tracked properly to close of 250k page views a month and close to 100k unique views a month. not bad for a super focused niche blog.

The goal now is to make those numbers solid and pass the 100k unique readers a month and the 250k page views a month with the end of the year.

It also calls for a change of look and look that should materialize within these month.

and Finally but not least: Monetization since Widgets Lab will adopt a 125×125 10 ad slots grid model that will go up at the top of the sidebar for a no rotation, monthly rate with perks. for a really really cheap price. so if you want to get one just write to me at AvatarX@live.com so i can set it up with Derek.

But enough of the plugs. 2 years of this blog. a time frame where things with widgets have changed so much, someone would say that it feels as lot more of time had passed than that.

Now lets concentrate on the new year to come at Widgets Lab. where the pace will continue to increase and we will continue to thank you all for reading and make us the #1 Widget Blog

Thank You All!
